Obviously you can’t improve on perfection, but you can have another cubby hole to store stuff in! As storage in the NSX is sparse, and inspired by a thread on prime, I had a play with my car. Obviously I’ve been bored since easter and the epic cambelt, water pump, LMA and so on!!!!

So the plan is to make a S2000 centre console compartment that goes between the seats fit between the NSX seats… thanks to Hugo and Shawn on NSXPrime for the idea!!

So starting with this…
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-20-283800x600.jpg

the idea is to go from this…
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-20-286800x600.jpg

to something like this….

not wanting to go too mad, I slowly started to ease the 2 bits together…
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-20-290800x600.jpg

slowly trimming back til the 2 parts are where they need to be!
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-20-297800x600.jpg

basically lots of trim/test fit/trim/test fit!!!

Once the S2000 door section was basically there, the cubby box had to be chopped off, as there’s not enough room for the full depth….
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-20-292800x600.jpg

behind the centre console, the NSX has a raised section in the bulkhead, not sure why just yet, plus a fat bunch of wires added to the mix…

my plan was always to use the S2000 ‘lid’ on the project, as it’ll make trimming easier, and I wanted to retain the centre speaker, so this was trimmed down to suit….
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-20-296800x600.jpg

and the top set up to take the speaker moulding….
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-301800x600.jpg

trimming and test fitting later, the speaker mount fits into the reworked lid
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-303800x600.jpg

and bonus is that the curve on the speaker mount is spot on for the lid

so the 2 bits were glued together, and the join blended in…
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-306800x600.jpg

a quick trim in leather and the original speaker cover fitted, it all looks like it’s always been like it!
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-308800x600.jpg

with the speaker mounted, the main unit was trimmed to suit once more, allowing the top cover to sit correctly….
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-313800x600.jpg

I also fitted the console into the car, and mocked up the cubby hole sides to match the bulkhead, then used the cut off box to make up the sides. an added complication is a boot release switch in the S2000 setup, which has a mounting moulded inside the box. This was deleted too
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-312800x600.jpg

as you can see there is no bottom/back in the box. the bulkhead has a rubberised sound-proofing layer so I decided to utilise this, adding a little more capacity .

next up, once the glueing was all finished, was to trim, another piece of leather going to the cause…
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-317800x600.jpg

mmmmmmm.... evostik
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-318800x600.jpg

you can see at the top the leather has a join in it, this is where the excess was removed. when trimming, the leather would either have to be sewn to shape, or have a huge stretch in it to cover the 'dome' at the top, this was why i wanted to keep the lid. the 'dome' is now a separate smaller piece with short rolled edges.

trimmed up…. (with the lid in place)
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-319800x600.jpg

then it was a case of finishing up! The box was lined with a very thin sticky backed foam (I bought it as dolls house black carpet that I wanted for the NSX model I have!) and a piece was added to the bulkhead, for continuity. Also the speaker wire was extended….
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-322800x600.jpg

and the final mockup…

all bolted in…..
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-323800x600.jpg

door opens! And just misses the seats!!
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-327800x600.jpg

and I can fit a can in it!!!
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-328800x600.jpg

more this way!!!
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-21-332800x600.jpg

very pleased with the outcome!!

Nice one!! Little extra storage would come in handy.

Seen the guys on prime doing something similar too.

Excellant modification! Once you got the mod itch, you can't stop scratching!

May be channel some cold air to cool your drink cans via some pipes from the rear hatch vents?

Great work BritLude!!
Nice to see you liked my idea:) your final product is a real vision to me now, that is exactly how I imagined it!
I have been too busy with my twin nsx projects to get "bored" and finish it

See you all on Prime

Well finished and a brave move unless you managed to acquire a replacement panel incase it didn't go to plan?

Looking forward to seeing the micro surgery to replicate it on the model though :)

Consider this your last warning ... Any more mods and you're out of here ... ;)

Seriously, great work! Like you I'd seen Hugo's inspiration over on Prime ... Unlike you I don't have the time to get them completed right now.

So what have you got planned for May Bank holiday ... Lol

Regards, Paul

a late addition to the centre console....

i removed the latch/lock mechanism and took out the key barrel to tweak it to the nsx key, fortunately the S2000 key is the same form/profile as the NSX one....

the barrel without the key...
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-23-346_1640x480.jpg

i was intending to put in the key, and file down any offending pins to give a basic lock function, but after swapping 2 of the brass sliders i had this with the key fitted....
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/thisYup/nsx stuff/nsx s2000 glovebox mod/z2012-04-23-349_1640x480.jpg

only a minimal bit of filing/tweaking required on 2 blades!!! a bonus stroke of luck!!! so I have a centre console rear cubby box with locking door!!!
