Who knows whats supposed to be included in a 54,000 mile service for above car (mine is only 49,000):

Honda dealership A: quoted MAJOR service including spark plug change; oil filter and air filter change
Honda dealership B asked "how many spark plugs does it have???"
Honda dealership C: stated INTERMEDIATE service saying Oil & Air filter changes

Both A and C dealerships claim to be NSX specialists. Anyone know what should be included?

Geoff,

Can you share what's been done so far as this will help all to answer your question. For example, what was last service and when?

Geoff

I thought you had ll the majors done a few months ago ie cam belt, water pump etc they must have changed oil filter and oil, spark plugs when they did that?

Agree with what Paul said.

Also it's safe to say, Honda Dealership B, need to send the peron you spoke too off for a training lesson, or if it was me, just fire him/her lol

Geoff,

If it is of any help, my car is a 2000, NA2 manual, pop up, with circa 34k miles, so very similar to yours.

My service book (which makes no mention anywhere of NSX specific service) shows for cars registered after July 1998 1, 2 3 and 7 year cycles. So assuming your car has in the past been maintained competently and in accordance with the cycle, you would in theory be looking at the 2 year cycle plus as it happens the 3 yearly valve adjustment and the 7 yearly cycle if you have platinum spark plugs. I assume you have this stuff in your service book but if not let me know by PM and I can send you a pdf of the relevant pages from mine.

So much for the book; and mine is fully stamped from day 1 to month 132 by specialist NSX Main dealers.

However, if you have a look at Kaz’s blog from mid June 2012, that is my car. You can read into it what you will but it may be that your car has similar issues, which largely fall outside the ambit of the regular Honda Service Schedule.

My view is that 12+ years left out in the elements gives plenty of time for parts to degrade, and this won’t have been helped by incidences of indifferent maintenance. However, whether one takes pre-emptive action is entirely a matter of personal choice. To judge by comments on here when I posted on a recent related issue not everyone shares my view!

Cheers

Nick

Hi, Geoff.

Not sure why you are still on 54K miles service (6th annual service) on about 14years old NSX so I’ll just write the general info….
By now, you should be using the ‘Continuation Service book’ after exceeding 132 months or 99,000miles.

1998 is a bit tricky one and as Nick mentioned, Honda UK changed the service interval for any Honda cars registered on or after July 1998.
For these, the service interval is every 9,000miles or 12 months whichever comes first.

Based on your signature section, it seems that your NSX has ‘S’ reg so I presume it was registered Aug/98 or later and thus, it should be following the above interval.

For those registered before that time, it is every 12,000miles with interim service required after completion of each 6,000miles, if travelling more than 6,000miles per annum.
If travelling less than 6,000miles per year, then you just carry out the main service annually.

I could write down what is included in the 54K miles service but everything is written on your service log book, if you still have one.

As others suggested, best to find out what was done in the past but even so, not easy to comment on the state of your NSX without actually looking at it or without lots of photos aiming at the specific areas of the car.
