ABS and Door Handle

Had a bad day today,
decided to take the NSX out as she had beeen consigned to the garage for 12 weeks for various reasons

Dropped the keys and the alarm fob now not working
got the spare fob reversed out of the garage, went to open the door somthing in the interior handle cracke and
unable to open the door from the interior, still works OK externally
as the handle pivots OK suspect it is the aluminium thingy that has gone
Does anyone have one or please advise best place to source.
so finally got on the road, within 5 mins at 15 mph with no pedal pressure the ABS kicked back, a minute later the ABS
repressurised and I thought all was well. 2-3 mins later again at slow speed with no pedal pressure the ABS kicked back through
the brake pedal and the ABS warning light came on permenant.

Is this likely to be a wheel sensor.
I will check for the error code hopefully tommorow /Tuesday.

Any advice on either of these problems very much appreciated.

Hi, Chris.
Not sure what happened to your post as it suddenly disappeared from the Technical section and
now it's back but in General forum.

Any way, sorry to hear the news.
Hope the following info will help you.

1. Door handle
There are mainly two failure modes.

As in the link posted by NSXGB (disappeared... so, I'll repost the link below),
if the handle broke at the linkage close to the two small screws,
you can repair it with the very aftermarket parts from SoS or from another vendor.

However, if your handle broke near the lever like another member 'mutley' experienced,
then the only reliable way of repairing it is to replace it with used/new OEM one or
buy the aftermarket one from SoS.

I looked at some of the SoS door handles and while it looks great from outside,
personally, I didn't like the touch of the surface behind the lever where
you will place your finger when opening the door.

For the used parts, you may want to contact the member 'NSX PARTS',
'drmikey', etc.


2. ABS
I'm not sure whether I fully understood your explanation or not but it
sounded like you managed to activate the ABS solenoid (not the ABS pump)
without even touching the brake pedal at very low speed.

I have experienced this on several UK based NSX.
It was all down to the noisy signal from the wheel speed sensor or
trigger teeth issue at the drive shaft.

Unfortunately, the brain power of the classic ABS was not strong enough
and most of the time, it didn't trigger the ABS warning light or even
when it triggered, it was for the failure mode when ABS pump continuously
operated for 2min without being able to achieve the targeted pressure.

I do hope your classic ABS managed to capture the wheel speed sensor failure though
if you didn't see the TCS warning light at that time, it is very unlikely….


Hope you can read the error code for further analysis.

Weather OK today so got the car out to check error codes
all lights on when ign turned on
all lights out when engine running
drove a few hundred yards ABS light came on followed a few seconds later by the TCS light
switching off and restarting confirmed same sequence.

checke error codes as lollows
ABS light 4 fast + 4 fast

TCS light 4 + 4


a little help please in analysing the codes
all I can find so far is the first 4 on the ABS is wheel sensor

Code 44 for the sensor, is right rear sensor, if you can raise the car up safely, have a look round the cable, see if its damaged or broken anywhere, if nothing obvious is visible, unplug the sensor [orange 2 pin connector] put a multi meter on it to read the ohms, this should give you a second opinion if the sensor has gone bad.

I replaced a front drivers side sensor on an NSX in for some work, got the code, checked it on the multimeter, and then removed it for a brand new one; cleared the memory and glad to say the warning lights have now disappeared.

Only issue I had was, I had to remove the calliper and hub to get the sensor out as it was so badly corroded and had separated at the bolts that hold it in place.

Hi Chris,

The owner of the car just purchased it straight from a Honda dealer, expensive at £230+

You could try some US dealers for better pricing, or have a look at the links Britlude mentioned. But before you go purchasing, make sure and test the sensor. The rears are the easiest to get a multimeter on too.

ABS Sensors, should have them in stock, I'd need to check though.
The rears can be a pain to get out if they are badly corroded in the hub.
