Hi, Dan.
The cassette tape feature is actually a separated module inside the audio head unit (HU).
On the bench, if I power up the HU without installing this cassette tape module, it will stuck in ‘tape’ mode and can’t switch to the ‘radio’ or ‘CD’ mode (if you have CD changer or adaptor connected).
Did someone open your HU in the past?
There is a chance that something got jammed inside the cassette tape module.
Also, although I have never seen the HU to stuck in tape mode due to internal failure, it may be showing the sign of failure somewhere on your HU.
How old is your NSX?
For your reference, the HU is Alpine and not Bose.

Hi Kaz,
The stereo is in a `99 - it did have a cassette stuck half-in/half out that would not eject - I`m guessing the tape unit still thinks its loaded?
Thanks, Dan.
