First of all, yes -this gearbox is in the Snap-ring problem range. The transmission number is J4A4-1005488 and was manufactured in 1992.

The former owner had the gearbox replaced with a rebuilt one in preventive purpose in 2010 when the car had 62k miles (and no failure). The failure will not occur on every transmission in the range and this one could be one of the “good ones”. So you can use it as it is or leave it for a preventive repair, a qualified mechanic can repair an NSX transmission.
