It seems I need a new heater unit for my recently purchased NA1. I can't get any airflow to de mist the windscreen and my Honda Specialist (an independent) tells me that he cannot find anything wrong without removing the dash. He says I will probably need to source a new heater unit.

So, Anyone now of an NA1 being broken?

Cheers,

Phil

would your specialist not consider removing the dash to confirm the diagnosis?
The dashboard is not a major hassle to remove. please check the NSX Refresh pages for pics of mine being removed to identify and resolve all my a/c issues.

Hi, Phil.

Not sure how your issue was diagnosed but based on your other post 'Heater problem??’ (http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/showthread.php?11938-Heater-problem) in the Technical Forum, I would first check the easy bits before start searching for the heater unit and removing the dashboard.
Considering the noise prevention after the re-installation and alignment of the interior panels, I won’t say removing/re-installing the dashboard is an easy task.
Even for me, it’s at least 1 full day task and if you just simply remove and put it back in place, it will cause interior squeaking noise in the future.

Vent motor is located at the left upper side of the heater unit so if it is broken, you may end up removing the dashboard and while this motor failed in the past on several NSX, it doesn’t fail so often.
You may be able to access it by removing the plastic horizontal duct behind/above the glove box as well.

If your A/C CCU was not re-furbished in the past, I can 100% guarantee you that it has many problems if your NSX is of 91 model.
Even if you press on the amber DEF switch on the CCU and while the display will show the correct text/indicator, it is possible that the motor driver inside the CCU is not activated due to circuit board damages inside there.

Or, it could be simple as the Vent motor connector not properly locked or the linkage being disturbed by the aftermarket wires and devices.
I have seen so many examples causing cracking noise when Vent and Mode motors were operated due to these obstacles preventing the smooth operation of the Vent and Mode features.

You seemed to be based near Mercedes F1 and I’m about 25min from there in Bucks.

As you can see in the Blog section of this site, I’m slowly recovering from my recent illness so can’t do it immediately but when we have some time, I can take a look at your CCU although it has to be a quick one in order to be fair with other owners in the queue waiting for my services for more than 1 year.....

Hi Kaz,

If the ccu does need refurbishing, what does this cost to do?
