Started to polish my car

I have finally got around to bringing my car in to work to give the paintwork a good going over. In general it has come up pretty well, but I will be getting the front end resprayed early next year to bring it up to the standard of the rest of the car. There are still a few deeper scratches in the paintwork which I don't really want to take enough out to get rid of, but all of the very light scratches from 14 years of washing have now gone. This is after going over it with two grades of polish, there is still some polish residue in places, next job is two coats of wax and then a sealant. Then polish the glass, go over the plastic trim and take the wheels off for a good clean and wax. Not easy to get across in the photos, but it looks a whole lot better than it did before.

it looks great mate, will be even better with the wax on.
that's a handy looking lift/jack you have, is it just for taking the wheels off or does it go up enough to do work underneath?
but nice bright area to work in and get stuck in cleaning and polishing. i'm tidying up and painting the rear sway bars/suspension components and front bits on my mx3, just to keep the rust monster away and freshen things up. rx8 will be next, in good shape as is but want to keep it that way :)

First coat of wax on this morning, wheels removed ready for cleaning.

The lift goes up to just under 2m and goes completely flat in to the floor:

The tyres are Yokahama Advan AD08, 215/45 R16 on the front and 245/40 R17 on the rear. The tyres are great in the dry, but I'm not keen on them in the wet. Getting wheel spin in 3rd gear in a straight line with the torque of the NSX surprised me to say the least.

that's a really useful lift and you can access the middle, was it more expensive than a four post? the convenience of storing it out of the way in the floor makes me think it would be. but would love a lift like that in my garage.

Looks Great, My advice would be sealant before wax however..

I have heard both but had good success this way so I'm happy with it. Two coats of Collinite 476 followed by a coat of Rejex. I'm off to China for a fortnight, I'll give it another coat if Rejex when I get back, then set about tge rubber, glass, and interior. I'll post progress pictures here. Wheels are off the car and will be cleaned then waxed before going back on. I might even have a go at cleaning up the suspension arms a little bit.

The lift itself was relatively cheap. I think it cost more to get it fitted than to buy it. It was chosen over a 2 or 4 post lift due to the easier access and being unobtrusive when not in use. So far I have only used it to polish a couple of cars, but being able to work on the car at a sensible height is fantastic.

Just a quick update on paint thicknesses. Typically around 150um. The polishing process removed around 6um on average.

Well, that is the job finished. Wheels cleaned and waxed, bodywork polished and waxed, sump changed, suspension cleaned, oil changed, coil rain guard fitted, new rear 'H' and new front splitter fitted. All ready to go back on the road now.
I must say that I have really enjoyed the whole process. I never feel that I have properly 'bonded' with a car until I've had a chance to take bits off it and do a few jobs. I'll be getting my SL in the garage in the new year as that is ready for a bit of TLC as well.

With the TLC that NSX has received to date it must surely be one of the finest NA2 pop-ups in the UK, look after her and now go drive her .... lots!

What model SL do you have please?

It is a 1987 300SL, It is in the body shop at the moment having a few small bits of paintwork sorted out, including giving the bulkhead a thorough check, then I'll get stuck in and change all of the fluids and filters, get the soft top removed and sent off for new windows to be fitted, fix the problem on the heater controller and then detail the paintwork.

Now that you finished pampering the beautiful NSX, it's time to remove those dreadful stickers on your tool cabinet. Heater gun or even the hair drier is your friend :).

Looking at other photos in your photobucket, the reflection on the paint work just shows how much time you spent.
