this year, one on the things on my to-do list was re-carpet the Hotrod!

when i retrimmed it previously when the colour changed from red to green, i used cheap and cheerful green carpet. this was all very well, nice and good, UNTIL i found the floor mats at silverstone classic, and subsequently retrimmed the full carpet in the NSX in the same stuff!

so an order was placed with Autostyle for another 5 metres of the bently spec green carpet and the hotrod interior stripped!

before...

during... the old carpet is still on the door panels at this stage, the new stuff alot denser, smoother and plusher!

the awkward bits around the column and tunnel

mostly done!

and all back together

all that was left to do was sent off some cut out mats back to Autostyle to be edged!

that's another thing off the list!

what i had to later add to the list were the brake servos overhaul, as i found this in one of the servos...

not supposed to be brake fluid IN the vacuum chamber!

Fitting the carpet in the hot rod must be so much simpler when you can use gripperrods!

certainly makes the edging a lot easier!

i have had some 2mm stainless laser cut to make heel mats, to reflect the 'grid' motif on the aluminium inserts in the top trims on the doors and dash

if the carpet can be done in sections where the carpet only bends or curves in one plane then it's straight forward. its compound curves, bulges and dips that are the issue.

the NSX is basically all flat bits, the only exception is the outer sills at the front, where the sill flares out for the footwell.

the hotrod is basically all flat bits with single bends, the exception on this is the rear arches which are 'bulged' at the outer edges. fortunately this is only shallow and has trim holding it onto the curve, and hiding the cuts required to let the carpet flow!

of course, if you use a more curve friendly carpet it's a lot easier! what is really important is decent spray impact adhesive. the best stuff i've found is from martinsupholstery.co.uk, their heavy duty spray adhesive, it seems to cope with heat a lot better than any others
