There are rumours that it will be JB's final year in F1. What a shame. :(

Would make sense Jonathan - Jensen's still got the fitness and the smoothness to be good in WEC...think he should have done it this year, TBH, but sort of understand why he hung on with Honda.

I don't know but suspect staying was kind of payback to Honda, after all the BAR in which he achieved his world title was effectively a Honda. If, and currently I think its a big if, Honda could overcome the packaging issues and regen issues then next yr could be a good one. I fear that Honda have approached this as a longer term programme.

With Webber picking up his fist victory recently with a driving style not dissimilar to that of JB,WEC would be good way forward ....

... unless of course he joins Chris for the new Top Gear series?

I think you'll find that was a Brawn Paul ;)

Whilst I'll be sad to see Jenson leave F1 - I've been fortunate to meet him on a few occasions and he is the thoroughly decent bloke you see on the TV each GP weekend - he has had a good innings, 15 seasons and a World Drivers Championship. I'm not sure I want to watch him have another season like this one. He seems keen on a media career, and I think he'll adapt well to this. I do hope he keeps his hand in at the wheel though - WEC would be good.

The Brawn-GP car was basically a Honda car with a Mercedes engine bolted on - oh the irony!

Yep.

Apparently the install of the Merc engine was not easy and in the early days at least, not pretty.

We'll not see another 'Brawn' in our lifetimes.

Looks like we will be waiting a little longer for information:

Given that Jenson made a very clear 'I've made my decision' statement a few days ago, I wonder if something has changed, like perhaps McLaren engaging in discussions!

My faith in Honda used to be unshakable, however this years F1 fiasco, and their production cars over the last 5 years or so, has changed this. In F1, I feel that they are just too far behind the opposition to get to the point they are competitive under the current engine formula. I have no doubt they will improve next year, but enough to catch up with, and then outperform Mercedes? I hope I am wrong, particularly if JB stays (which despite Ron's statement, I wonder if Jenson is quite so sure!) but I really cant see it.

Catching up with Mercedes will be a tall order - even now - as Mercedes has a 2-3 year head-start over Honda on developing the power unit. Can't see them competing on a level playing field until the next big rule change re. power units.
Honda went down the ultra-compact, light-weight path, whereas Mercedes went for Max Power, not worrying about the packaging so much. In theory, the Honda unit should be as good, but the reality has proven very different.

I think JB & Alonso will stay with McLaren Honda in 2016, Alonso staying for 2017 if the car gets competitive (top 3 or 4 teams level).

It would seem that both McLaren and (crucially!) Jenson have confirmed they will compete together in F1 next year.

Fingers crossed that it is a happier one for all concerned.

Great news for JB. Lets hope next year's car is an improvement. :)
