According to the latest Pistonheads Flemke, is this your McLaren? thread, our NSX and McLaren owning carnoisseur is sending his Type R back to the factory for a refresh.
I wonder what he is deciding to have done from the menu?
How far will he go? Full strip down and repaint?

So if I have this right it's approx £1000 just for them to have a look at it?

And we complain about Honda uk parts prices, Honda must think that............second thoughts I'd better not say anymore.:)

release Hawk from the bellhousing?

Should I be dropping in small rodents for mine? I feel cruel now.

I love these translations...

I've been to the NSX refresh factory in Tochigi

They dont mess about

Only new items to replace old items. No "refurbishing"

If I had a Type R, it's where I'd send it.

It's an impressive committment to the marque.

I'm VERY temted to send my car. Do we think if a few of us sent our cars at the same time we could save on shipping costs?

Would send it a mounth or 2 before NSX FIESTA then fly out and do NSX FIESTA in the car before shipping it back to the UK.

Paul,

That is a good idea having been to the fiesta in 2015 it would be a great experience. I should get some firm figures tomorrow but here are some approximate costs. It will be a little cheaper for 2 cars but the UK shipper has said they will not put more than 2 cars in a 40 ft container.

Single car 20 ft container £7,000 return
Two cars 40 ft container £5,500 return both prices exclude delivery to and from port to Tochigi factory but the UK shipper can deal with this via their Japan office.

The bad news is 10% import duty and VAT will be due on the invoice value of all transportation costs and work done in Japan. So very roughly if the cost of refresh work was £20k and the shipping was for the single car option £7k the total will be around £35k or about £33k is cars are sent in pairs. So I guess the saving would fund the trip to the Fiesta.

Paul, don't tell me the wife's getting jealous about the condition of her new old NSX already???:)

Mike can you request to keep the old parts (which I'm sure would still be serviceable) or do Honda keep them, although thinking about it if you're that inclined and wealthy enough to have this refresh in the first place why would you want them back, except maybe to sell to you that is.:)

As far as I like to idea to have it refreshed at the factory, for 5500-7000 (shipping) you can do a lot at a known specialist here and don't have worry about the car getting damaged/lost during shipping.

I have a friend who runs a freight business, if it was a serious enquiry, I could ask for some rates for you.

Unless your car needed paintwork, surely Kaz would be a better option?

Yes at that sort of money a chat with Kaz would be best, however I think the front bumper at least needs paintwork.

You can't keep the "old" parts - the refresh states "parts to be exchanged ... to be disposed of at the factory".

Another thing is that the service has to be arranged through a Honda Dealer in Japan.

Then in that case surely the only sensible thing to do is to book your NSX in with Kaz and allow him free raine on what he feels he needs to replace and then you get to keep the parts to sell to Drmikey.:)

A fortune saved on shipping fees, guaranteed second to non accurate workmanship (not just a Honda dealer mechanic) and any warranty issues Kaz is straight on hand.

And probably no up front $1000 fee for just an appraisal.

There you go Kaz, expect at least a couple of enquiries.:)

Hi,

not my intention to badmouth Honda Guys, even being the Factory ones, but if i had to send my car anywhere, it would
be to Kaz hands, no second thoughts...

They only replace parts with brand new ones. For example, if a ball joint needs replacing, they replace the whole arm, not replace the ball joint. In my eyes a good specialist is more skilled as they actually restore and refurbish parts rather than just buy a brand new unit for £££

My thoughts entirely, well said Mike.

Yes they replace with new parts, but I would ask for the old parts to be put in the bag and put in the boot.

Any Refresh I Do, I include the old items, I don't need them laying round lol.

I also don't take loads of money up ftont and make people to Waite years for a service. Honda NSX approved don't even do this it!
