Goodwood Festival of Speed 2017 - Central Feature

Each year at the Festival of Speed a central feature is constructed in front of Goodwood house.

In the past these have always commemorated a significant anniversary for a motor manufacturer, usually with a strong racing heritage (Land Rover is the only exception to this which I can think of).

This year, the central feature celebrates an individual.....one Bernard Charles Ecclestone!

A choice which is likely to cause some controversy I feel.

I wonder if it will comprise a statue of the great man, towering over 6' tall?!

Not sure about the statue, but suspect it will creatively display his personal collection of rare road and race cars ...

Paul, yes you are correct....largely....I believe the display will feature a 500cc Cooper from the early 50's (Bernie raced these), a Gold Leaf Lotus 72 from his days as a driver manager, of course a BT49 from his days as a team owner, a Schumacher raced F2001 from his days as an 'impressario' and the 2016 World Championship-winning Mercedes F1 W07 to commemorate all he has done for F1 - I believe this is the one car which will feature on the display which is not from Bernie's personal collection.

It doesn't worry me - Lord March keeps inconveniently holding his garden party on the same weekend as my son's birthday, so I'm going to have to decline the invitation once again... ;)

Nice to see the championship white Type Rs, and the new(ish) NSX - thanks for the photos.

For a bit more colour, the Goodwood section of the Pistonheads forums has not only the CW cars, but a blue new(ish) NSX.
