View Full Version : Which way to go?

I'm close to fitting OEM 02+ rims to my NSX :)

My dilema is whether to refurb in OEM silver or, bearing in mind the colour of my car, go with the 98 spec colour as used on the
Japanese spec Type S.

I've copied a photo from Prime (that uses ChrisR NSX-R rep) to give an idea of the different look. I would be going slightly lighter than the actual picture shows.

Interested to hear your thoughts.....was going to run this with a voting poll but couldn't get it to work :?

I think gunmetal grey would be too dark with your car. I would highlight the car with silver wheels. :D

I agree.I think it would look better with the silver wheels as well.I think the standard 7 spokes on my car are too dark,so maybe in the not-to-distant future a new set of rims may be going on mine.

Looks like the gunmetal needs a clean!

Thats the problem with silver cars (i have one as well) the wheels need to be bright or you will get the dirty wheels look.

What about a non silver colour, can you post a pic with white wheels?

Well, I'd better vote for anthracite, as that's what I have on my silver car, windows dark-tinted too so different "look" again. Still not sure if cool or naff!

Hopefully post some pics later today! (Once the work thing out of the way..)

I prefer the silver in the top picture, makes the wheels look bigger and fill the arches better than the darker ones.

I much prefer the darker colour... make it look much "harder"

AND you won't have to clean them as often. :D

top pic!

on the darker ones, the edge get's 'lost' against the tyre....

I find myself quite torn between the 2 styles....

I think on balance, as great as the darker ones are, they work best with darker paintwork and the silver car works best with the brighter wheels.

hey Britlude, how about some pictures of your Ford? - start a new thread in the picture gallery with them would you, there's a good chap ;)

Thanx for the feedback and so far it's 6 - 3 in favour of the Silver, thats taking Darren's vote as Grey as my car is the Magnum, ie dark colour.

I'll be keen to see if this position changes over the next few votes.

....how about getting them painted a slighty lighter grey to the pic above and have the raised part of the rim and spokes diamond cut or polisehed???

Senninha

I like the idea of polishig the raised parts on the spokes. I will have to look closely atthe wheels to see if there's a defined edge to polish.

Actual colour would be slightly lighter, more aligned to the 98 spec rims.

oh yeah, I kind of forgot it was your car we were talking about due to the silver car pictured!

yours will def look wicked with the dark wheels on - when I changed to black wheels on my (black) S2000 it transformed the car (in a good way!)

I think your car would suit something like this 8) You get the best of both worlds then.

MOD EDIT - attachment deleted due to being mahoosivley huge required major scrolling!

feel free to try again with a smaller version preferably max 800 pixels wide ;)

NSX 2000,

Busy weekend so I missed your proposal before deletion. If you have time please try to repost.

All,

Did you see TopGear tonight with the dark grey Gallardo Spider with dark rims, IMO, it looked superb!

well done mate ;)

glad to see you persevered and mastered the photo-editing skills required to keep the forum nice and tidy :D

and frustrating as the learning curve may have been, I'm sure you are much more satisfied having done this yourself than if I had just edited and reposted the pic for you 8)

i'm guessing 'mahoosivley' is a technical mod term?

Oh, don't go there - they're a bloody nightmare for corrosion!

I don't think the picture's entirely fair, since the poor car's suspension is broke.

I think the anthracite (I thought it was a lighter colour!) would then look fine.

But having seen the pic of Pande's car, how good silver/silver can look.

On that specific nsx in the picture....i say Silver...

the gunmetal rims may look 'harder' because it looks like its covered with brake dust. The lighter color silver puts more emphasis on the wheel and overall looks cleaner.

your nsx being magnum grey...if i were in your shoes, I'd have polished lips...

You can always try them in Silver and see how it feels after a week them refinish if you are not happy.

Ary,

far to bling for me

I've got an idea that I think will work well, especially against the Magnum. Watch this space for the results.

Finally got the rims refurbed and fitted and I'm delighted with the results:D

Some of you will have seen the results at the RR day but here's a couple of pic's for all.

Thanx to AR for making the rims available, to Matt (The Quiet One) for regular updates on the performance of the F1's and to Robert and his team at Red Star in Braintree for the fitment of the NSX-R anti-roll bar, geometry set up and the refurb work.

Now I need to find time to refurb the calipers that look a little tired behind these nice new rims.

Car looks great mate, I had the BBS refurbed a shade darker than yours and they make these dark color cars look mean!

I actually used a Honda color, Pewter Grey from the 92 Accord range, NH537 which was as close as I could get to the Penta alloys on my Tourer. Its darker than the standard 98 wheel color, Solaris Silver NH536, but without being too dark so as to loose the detail of the wheel.

You'll have to update your photo's now, maybe post some in the vBGarage?
