New NSX Owner - Cornwall

Hello All,

It's about time I pipe up as the new owner of Y811 PJB / formerly V6 NSX (http://www.nsxuk.com/sold#/2001-honda-nsx-manual-targa-na2/). It's the Pre-Facelift NA2 2001 UK Reg Imola Orange Pearl NSX-T Manual as previously owned by Papalazarou and Flyingsniffer.

NSX ownership has been a childhood dream for me ever since playing Gran Turismo 1/2/3. While spending a few weeks in lockdown early this year I had a word with myself and decided ownership was going to be one of my goals this year. I've put a few hundred miles on her now to give her a good shakedown and have enjoyed every moment. It's a bit lower than my old Nissan Silvia S15 which makes driving at night hard work sitting in the low beams of everyone else!

I've done a few minor bits like changing to improved road legal interior / exterior bulbs. Otherwise my modifications should be limited to getting a kit from ATR Racing to increase the amount of tail lights to JDM/USDM Spec (as that's what I was used to in Gran Turismo of course!!!) Has anyone else here done that to a UK/EUR model?

Another question while I am here.

The cover to each of the headlamps is held on by 4 screws, the holes in the cover are slotted. The blanking covers to the screws (if present) just prise out (their is a small indentation on the short edge to facilitate this). The screws have JIS heads but may initially need the help of an impact screwdriver if they haven’t been touched previously. Once slackened off their may be enough wriggle room with the cover to effect a suitable adjustment.
Check out your favourite tool supplier for a Vessel Megadora Impacta screwdriver - they work and they have the correct head.

headlamp cover needs to move forward.... don't lose the covers to the outside screws when you try to remove them....

Steady- if the wings fit the bonnet, why go there; if the front of the bonnet fits the nose, again, why go there.
Try the headlamp covers first, they have movement in the them, they are simple and easy to tweak.

Haven't done that mod but keep eyeing it up, it's very much part of the iconic look of the car. You can also see it as useful maintenance for gradual warping of the older tail light units. Also note that the rear light gaskets give up eventually and start to leak water into the boot, so make sure the kit comes with new tail light gaskets - ATR should sort you out :)

Does that kit come with the LED third brake light strip to be inset into the spoiler? Most UK cars had the third brake light deleted and a plastic blanking strip instead, but still have the harness for the light if you want to fit one.

To see that set of lights flash past on a dark motorway will take you right into a Tokyo special stage - it's a public service you're doing there!

These should provide you with some idea on the JDM Taillight.

You'll need to convert the R-side reverse/back-up light as the Rear Fog light for the RHD.

If using LED bulb for it, you need to review the beam angle.

With the NSX taillight assy, many of the bulb bases are aligned with some angle that you may not get the ideal light lumen/intensity if the beam angle is not wide enough to efficiently cover the reflector.

Welcome to the Mobius strip of body panel alignment.

You 'can' adjust just the plastic headlight cover and that's what I recommend to start with.

4 x screw with plastic washer for the protection.

Two of the outboard ones are hidden by the coloured oval cap.

So easy to drop it into the tiny gap between the wing panel and the head light cover so be careful.

Even with the microfiber cloth covering the gap, I still managed to drop the cap the other day so had to send out the replacement to the owner through the post.


You could go further but may end up spending hours if started adjusting the alignment of other panels at the same time.

It's my own policy not to touch the front bumper bolt, wing, bonnet/hood hinge alignment unless 100% sure that these have to be done.

Each NSX left the factory with different number of shims installed for the panel alignment purpose and even using the same tools and the torque, the end result could change depending on the person carried out the task.

Great to see another NSX in Cornwall, I have 8NSX and have lived in Falmouth for the past 4 years. There are at least two others down this way, one of which is owned by Rowes Honda. They do have a trained NSX technician which is useful.

Thanks for all the tips on tools and how to go about adjusting the headlamps gents! It'll be a while before I fix it up as I've just gone away with work til Feb.

To answer RedCarsGoFaster. No, the kit does not come with the LED spoiler light, but the car does have a LED spoiler light :D (perhaps as standard by this model year)

The kit comes with L/R harnesses, bulbs, 'modules' & clamps. I presume seals too if this is a common problem.
If/when I do get around to would make sure that it's all non-LED bulbs as I believe retrofitted LEDs are bad news for MOTs nowadays.

Leds are now not allowed retrofitted to headlights, the same as HIDs now, but LED's elsewhere are still ok

the issue with the NSX is the rear light bulb holders are angled to the back of the car, and all the decent replacement leds have the best light output in line with the bulb, so never ideal in our lenses

The max file size, max width & height pixels.

The forum platform is really old and people used to take photo using the handy digital camera and just upload the file to the server.
The internet speed was much slower compared to what you can get these days.

Probably these limit was set to use the server resource efficiently and also supporting the user experience over slow internet when browsing the image.


If using storage service and if the provider allows direct link to your photo file, you could 'host' your image file rather than uploading to the forum server.

I use Google Photo service and it allows direct link.
You don't upload the file to the nsxcb forum server but instead, upload it to your storage service and get the direct link.
Then, paste the link into your forum post.

The user can keep browsing through your photo and text seamlessly without the need of clicking on the photo thumbnail as there are none.

Also, it doesn't occupy the server storage space.
With such small community, not a big issue but still, small thing can help.

And as you can see above, it won't be restricted by the image file size, pixcel size, resolution, etc.

I normally upload to the storage service in png format and set the longer side to 1080 pixcel in order to keep the appearance of the post the same.



You can still upload the file to the forum server by using several image editing software.

Very old software but I still use IrfanView to convert the format, size, etc.

As in your post, it will be like this and the user would click on the thumbnail to get larger image.
If you have multiple thumbnails with lots of description inside the post, kind of difficult to keep the relationship between the image and the text.

You can also convert it in progressive mode but unless the internet is at the crawling speed like the era of dial-up, probably won't notice any difference compared to the above thumbnail;

Whatever the method you use, there are pros and cons.

I prefer the direct link hosting method than the upload simply because it's much easier to browse without clicking on the thumbnail for the users.
However, if your storage service changes the direct link format or stop the service, you could lose the link and end up with empty space inside your post in the future.
Happened in the past.

I moved the headlight cover forward a little but still had the same issue. I ended up having to loosen the four bolts holding the headlight assembly and shifted it outboard ever so slightly which has solved the clearance issue and the panel gaps are much better. I've changed all of the headlamp & fog bulbs with new Osram Laser so they are all the same temp too, and a little brighter. The challenge now is sidelights to match that aren't coloured blue when off.

The car is at a family members for detailing. The paint is in good shape but nevertheless a lot of polishing has been done so far (rear end and roof to go). Next up some chip repair then ceramic coat with Gyeon Pure. Similar in depth treatments of the glass, interior and engine bay to follow.

The cerakote plastic trim coating makes the arches way better looking and it should be a very durable treatment! They'll look nce with the new AdvanAD08RS rubber.
I'm looking forward to getting the car home and I can start blasting and cerakote'ing many of the brackets under the bonnet matt black. (I've got my own setup at home)

No pictures but I also spent a few hours cleaning all seat & cockpit leather with dodojuice leather cleaner spray, sponge & bucket which removed a lot of dirt and old product off ready to start afresh. Finally, new taillight seals have been installed to stop some boot moisture I'd discovered after washing. I'm finding Amayama so useful for any little bits I'm finding I want to replace as I go over the car with a fine tooth comb.

I finally picked the car up from Plymouth yesterday post-detailing. You name it, it's been ceramic coated. So much work went into this by my family member and it looks awesome! Despite the overcast mizzle the colour still looks fantastic. It was a shame I caught a shower on the way home to Cornwall but the water, and hopefully the majority of dirt, just slides right off! Nevertheless I think I made a few other motorists days on the way home.

I didn't get around to the numberplate garnish straightening unfortunately but I got around a few other easy wins like aspirator fan rattle fix and the rear hatch/engine coilpack waterproofing kit by Davisdesignfab in the states. New plate won't be to everyone's taste but I was surprised it wasn't taken.

Having trouble with uploading photos whatever method I try...

I had written about how over xmas I was blasting and Cerakoting numerous steel brackets from the front engine bay and reconditioning the fogs. Will see if I can upload them elsewhere!


Getting a bit carried away replacing brake lines & rear pads. I just had to clean all the the arches.

May I ask what size of compressor you're using in your setup?

It's a 14.6 CFM / 100l compressor which is the largest you can have on a 13a plug yet the smallest needed to use on a cabinet of that size.
