The car looks excellent:
https://www.brightwells.com/timed-sale/5237/lot/553472
There is an 'interesting' note in the description:
"A further bill on file is included from Blade Honda for a staggering £9,424 detailing a replacement factory Alpine stereo unit and replacement digital climate control unit in Nov 2018 at 11,480 miles which must have made the eyebrows raise a little!"
Ignoring the Alpine reference, which must be a typo as there is clearly a Bose head-unit in the car, how is an invoice of nearly £10k achievable for these two components?

Not related to the advertised car but for the knowledge base.....
The pre-amp stage head unit is actually from Alpine.
Bose did the sound tuning (hence, the Bose sound system in the brochure) including the design of the speaker box, AMP, etc.
They were very reluctant to have the bass/treble control on the head unit over their sound tuning that they even requested to remove it.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AM-JKLVLHCw0dhRUalBCa5vyhaZtycwXouLl_ak44BZfmi84qSuBr Vdu9KsIvK5Frg50UOkxtyG1QfbxfUYjDHsTCQ9cfg1LVMb8Q40 v5_R6WNmajjVUMC0pYbSSY4vKkGn7tiOvSTASD9BkyBmH4iX_z zYv6A=w1080-h581-no?authuser=0
Outside of Japan, the sticker at the bottom lid, the logo 'Alpine' was replaced with 'Honda' or 'Acura'.
All of them are made in Japan.
In the link, I can see that the audio head unit in question is a later spec European model.
I don't know the latest price in Japan for the European model but even for the JDM one,
the new one would cost more than GBP2,000 by the time delivered to UK despite the stronger GBP exchange rate.
If ordered through European Honda dealers, they are listing it at GBP4,300 - 7,300....
If all 3 x speaker boxes (inc. AMP and the speaker) were replaced at the same time, the cost would be....
For the A/C CCU, there are almost no markings on the dials/buttons on the display.
Probably replaced with the new one as Honda doesn't sell these dial/button separately, unlike the audio head unit.
Together with the circuit board, it will be well into GBP1,000+ from Japan.
If ordered through European dealers, probably around GBP2,500 - 3,000.
So, depending on from where they were sourced and exactly what were ordered, not surprised to see the GBP10K bill.

go look up the prices of the standard seats (especially they type R, and wonder just what makes then so much more expensive than normal recaros.....) LOL

Could have given it a good clean and dust inside. And 2 services in one year, with less than 12k on the clock!
Less than £700 for a cambelt service!

Considering the idiot-low clickbait estimate. It will be interesting to see how much this car makes. It’s good to see UK sellers ‘generally’ gauging their prices on the current JDM. Good cars are getting scarcer, parts are getting more expensive and it appears that people are finally valuing what they have.
The EU market on the other hand is a mystery to me; there are two early cars with similar mileage, which are £30k different.
If I were buying again. I think I would be seeking out the 60-80k mile early cars. They represent the best value right now.
James.

Did I read the info right for that car; do they really charge 12% commission?!??! I thought the actual dealer 8.4% was steep! Bringing me to the cost of selling a car. Does it seem reasonable to charge more commission for selling a more expensive car? When we sold our house through Purple bricks nearly four years back. The other estate agents wanted 1.5-2%. So £1500-£2k per 100,000. I was told that by the time they had deducted wages, premises and marketing costs. They actually lost money on the lower value properties they sold. Now I’m in sales and you have to make something on everything. Even the loss leader is costed. So with the advent of companies like Purple bricks, it kind of made the traditional model semi obsolete.
Anyway, in relation to cars. It seems a little unfair to charge £8K for a £100k sale and £800 for a £10k sale. When the government do this, we call it a socialist tax on the rich. I know that some sellers don’t want the hassle and many buyers want finance. And the dealer needs to make some kind of bottom line percentage. So my question is. As a term of business, Do we think it’s fair or ethical to charge such a significant amount more, to sell what is essentially a more expensive box on wheels.

So what do we think this car will make? I’m going for complete lowball disaster or high 80’s.
Limited I think by the unforgivable commission. Otherwise 90+.
However, not seen the car, so not 100% sure on condition. Assuming collector grade.

£113,256 Definitely a UK NA1 record:) I watched it ‘live’ and there were several motivated parties. Someone put in 5k with a few minutes left to flush people out, lifting it to 92k, but it didn’t work:) If it ended like a Bringatrailer auction, it would have gone for more. In those, the clock overruns until no new bids arrive in the last minute I believe.

It was definitely fun to watch! I’m not a huge fan of auctions. Especially with 12% + vat! But may have to consider it next month. The question is which one? Collecting cars is a lot cheaper for the buyer. Anyone had any experience?

E5NSX also went at a different auction at the weekend: £43k+12%+VAT, IIRC - about £50k total. Pretty good for an auto.
And makes the manual NA1 in our Classifieds look like a superb bargain.

I’m surprised the car at Torque is still there! I’ve not physically seen it. But it looks good and it’s well serviced. Not sure whether it comes with original wheels. But the 5 spokes aren’t difficult to source.

I guess there’s a few elements in play; how much the customer needs/wants back, the upward NSX trend and the rarity value of non red/black cars. The yellow car is interesting. Obviously non original. It has 02 wheels etc. I don’t usually love them on pop-ups but I think the owner got it right with the colour. Ans the ride height is good.
Each car has a market. The yellow car is completely revertible if necessary (at a cost) but do purists/investors buy modded cars? Not sure. I guess some do. I would. A good car’s a good car.

IMO the yellow NSX ‘works’ because the mods are subtle and ‘could’ have been factory ordered had Honda chosen to offer the options … it looks like Andrews car although I’m thinking he has blades not 02s …
Key message from James is when you are talking the money some NSX make (or are advertised for) today, it needs to be a good car, with good history in the first place, and if modded sensibly then why not, especially if the OEM parts come with the sale …

Out of the two torque cars. Not physically seen either. But on paper I’d have taken the red one. A third of the mileage for less money. The yellow car however does look stunning and I’m sure it will sell.

The red car in the first post is in a FastR YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uiy3A-wxBM)
They have got most of the facts straight, just a bit confused on some dates, BHP figures and the use of the word alloy instead of aluminium alloy ...

I see the Brightwell car is back up soon
https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/sa081-lot-19059-1992-honda-nsx?el=19059&pn=1&pp=100
It was also interesting watching the Collecting car auction of the low mileage 92 car which sold for £76K + tax on the same platform in 2021. It made a lot more this time!
Again, personally I’d have been a little worried about the vin plate and lack of history, but perhaps a bit of research could sort this. I see there is a company that can do a really comprehensive search on JDM history now.

I saw this the other day as well. If the mileage is correct 36,000KM (just over 22K miles then it seems cheap (if you get it nearer the £70k than £100k estimate)).
But it does seem to be missing some history.

Actually, even the top end seems reasonable - it looks a typical JDM new car that collided with a rose thorn.

Sales tax, servicing costs and import tax (still owing) could take the edge off that. On recent auction and dealer sales this car should be in the £120k’s The auction houses always underestimate the values of NSX’s. The one that sold for £110K + tax in the spring had an advertised estimate of £55k!
I find the disparity in prices over the last year or so a little scary. I see original cars with good history making less and being harder to shift than riced up non original cars, some with glaringly obvious, hard to reverse issues. It’s beginning to make me thing that provenance doesn’t seem to matter. It’s like money laundering; 1. take a car that has no history and a questionable provenance. 2. Buy, then wait a year or two. 3. Sell at auction as part of a collection. Hey presto, you’ve just made £50K. Just out of interest, how many cars do you need to have a private collection?
Oh I have become so cynical. If only I could make the imoji’s work.

I’m not sure what the import tax would be now or overall condition of the car. But if both reasonable, that has to be the giveaway of the year.

Looks like there were no services between 2009 and 2022, during which time it covered 8,000 miles.
If appropriately kept and maintained by the owner that needn't be a problem, but I can imagine that it could prove a daunting buy if you want a logbook with a service stamp every year . . .

I had a look at the pictures on CC. It’s very hard to get a good idea of condition without actually seeing it. It’s had a respray and that can be spectacular or terrible.
There’s the usual surface corrosion under the bonnet and engine cover, so seen some UK winters. The seat repair stands out and it’s running big wheels (Volks GTU’s) which, as we know numbs the steering and handing somewhat.
I guess it depends what you want. A low mileage garage queen with a strong history is going to be worth a lot more. But not everyone wants this or wants to pay for it. Many want a usable car they can drive and or improve over time. This one looks like a light project provided there aren’t any issues.
No mention of the AC, stereo, speakers, when was the cambelt done? Etc…
Online auctions aren’t always the best gauge of value. I’ve seen some cars sell privately and through dealers for quite a lot this year, but also seen some ‘on the face of it’ bargains through the auctions.
Good luck to the new owner.
Cheers.

Seems to be a problem with the windscreen wipers, the fuel filler and glass hatch latches, and quite a bit of surface rust in the engine bay - most of which could be addressed by a dozen or two new bolts and a bit of elbow grease. Also the toolkit has been raided, along with the spare wheel.
But all the above are easily fixed, so this could be a great buy - good luck to the new owner.

Odd cars pass through the net. Especially with auctions. It does kind of prove that condition and history is king. Apart from that black one the other month with the dodgy vin plate etc.
