Bridgestone Tyres

I have the standard 96 year of manufacture OEM wheels and I will need new rear tyres soon (they have done just under 6k and have perhaps 1k left in them). I currently have Bridgestones and I will be looking to replace them with the same. I am abroad at the moment and I cannot remember the size I require.

Has anyone been able to get such tyres recently (I remember a thread that suggested they had been discontinued), if so where from and at what price?

Alternatively, is there anyone who has chosen an alternative and found them to be better than the Bridgestones?

Which Bridgestones are you using, there are 2 OEM Bridgestones for 16/17 combo.

Sizes (for all) are 215 45 ZR 16 (Front) 245 40 ZR 17 (Rear)

OEM tyres are..........

Bridgestone Potenza RE010 HO
Bridgestone Potenza TT-01 HO
Yokohama A-022 HO
Dunlop SP Sport 8050 HO

I recently bought some RE010 HO's from event mobile for around £260 a pair fitted.
In fact off to get a quote now.

I think Paul (Senninha),Matt and I are all running Goodyear Eagle F1s and as far as I know are all happy with them come wet or dry.

dunno if this helps the 16/17" drought?

Blackcirles cannot get the RE010's either, Bridgestone suggest the RE050 but state they are not ideal.

I seem to remember a problem getting OEM sized front and think I had to go for a 5mm bigger profile.

Yeah you have to go next size up then you can get Goodyear F1s to fit, thats what I'm on at the minute. Think I went a size up front and rear. Rears look fine, fronts do look a bit wide for the rims to my eyes.

OK here are the 3 Bridgestone 'options'

So I am possibly going to go for the RE050

I though the F1 was always advertised as a wet / all weather tyre, they seem to be promoting it as a summer tyre and it certainly isn't summer anymore.

Oh ok, yes it does look a bit of a dry weather tyre, but I haven't had any problems with it. Its wet weather performance seems no worse than the Yoko A022s I had on before (although they're well known for being bobbins in the wet).

I've done 18,000 miles on my current set of F1's front and back (with still 3mm of tread on the 'round-about-rear' which are 02's on the front and 03's on the back, they didn't do the 03's that Luke has when I got them 12 months ago for the front and as usual I'll sing their praises here...

Simon regarding the weather thing, I got them specifically after a near death experience involving aquaplaning and the OEM Yoko's that were on the car when I picked it up....

The F1's are totaly amazing in the wet...they are absolutely perfect, excellent traction, absolutely zero aquaplaning even in huge standing water areas etc etc the car just feels so safe.

They were also admirable during the heat, I really cannot fault them at all.

I have found the OEM front bridgestone for about 100 quid.. just need someone to fit them thats all

I could not get the sam so I went to RE040 fronts ( 215/45/16 ) OEM size and RE050 rears OEM size ( 245/40/17 ) I find them good in the rain, but they are still only about 250 miles in, so is early days.

It is Matt's superb all round recommendation that convinced me to investigate further. I have these (on OEM 17's all round) and to date have nothing but praise for them. The late dry spell shortly after I had them fitted was great for getting used to the difference from the old Yoko's. And as Matt says, in the wet they are superb, IMO, giving the same levels of grip as offered by the Yoko's in dry conditions.

Also, the design of the F1 reduces tyre noise significantly.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the GSD2 and GSD3?

I can only seem to find the fronts in GSD2 and the rears in GSD3.

I take it the sizes you guys have tried are 220x45x16 and 245x40x17?

Found a better site...GSD3 are "extra load"....Still having trouble finding the right sizes for the front though.

245x40x17 mail order from Black Circles are £112 each.

Noticeable difference will be tread pattern, less noticeable would be slight difference in performance characteristic.
Front should be available to match as Luke is running a matched set whereas Matt is on the mixed but without any problems.

They tend to stick to the Avon / Toyo / Kumho ranges, where I use the Kumho KU15. (nice cheap track looking tyre).

You can get Toyo T1-R in OEM sizes. It looks like OEM 16" sizes are getting harder to find. There's more in the OEM front 17" size.

I used to use 225s on the front when I had 16" wheels there's more available in that size.

Car was designed for 205 - 215, I had 225s and 205s but I find the 215 the best.

Have gone to 225 width Toyo (16") - was worried extra width might have adverse effect on steering "feel" but not so - find them very good wet & dry

Try the Bridgestones RE050 for the rears they wear better than the Michelins.

I'm running Goodyear Eagle F1s as well, they're entirely fine but when they go off, boy do they go off. One weekend you're 100% stuck to the road, the next weekend you're fishtailing up the M60 approach road at exactly 70mph ( .... Officer ). Thought my number had come up there! Work on £110 a side including valves and balances and all the stuff that goes along with buying new rubber.
