I've been doing some reading on the NSX numbering system. NSX Prime leads me to believe that the T-prefixed part of the VIN, which is the number on the door sill, is a sequential number that resets each year. As mine is a 1991 car and number T000350, can I assume that mine was the 350th car built?
I think judging by my last car and the current one.
Cheers,

On my 53 it's T200017. Can't believe there were 200017 made that year :rolleyes:

Maybe this can help clarify - it certainly appears to be an annual production number from #000001 onwards.

2 could be the model year = 2002 as these changed from letters to numbers from 2001, but I thought these were only on the VIN not the door sills!

Maybe the 2 is 02 plus?
It's possible, or it might be that I jotted it down wrong, I'm not actually local to the car at the moment to check. The weight of opinion certainly seems to be that it is an anual count.
Cheers, Rich.

The Vin change to a 2 came in, in 1997 with the NA2.
P27 is sill plate number, wait for it, doh, you guessed it T000027 !!
So I guess the procedding 2 could well be for 2002+ cars.
More research needed for the database at some stage I reckon.

According to Pirme the engine code is the full 3 digits; NA2, the later 2 in the VIN is the year code, which was a letter (starting at M for 1991) prior to 2001. However, this should precede the T (for Tochiga) not follow it.

Mine is a Red Black with sill number T000169. I could have been T000350 but you got to it first by 2 days!!

Decoding the VIN number: (european spec)
0 T 0 0 0 0 0 0
0 T 0 = 00 = model year 1991
0 T 1 = 01 = model year 1992
etc.
T = Tochigi factory in japan (1991-2004)
S = Suzuka, factory in japan (2005)
The last 5 serial numbers are the prod. No.
Starts at 00001 each year.
T 0 0 0 3 5 0 = model year 1991, prod # 350
That years, these guys were busy.

Thanks detlef.
However I think this discussion has gone through lots of tangents, the original discussion was just re the door sill plates, which should just be that years production number.

Very good question, one to which I have not found an answer.
However a lot of Honda's do have it.
Oh and no Old Large and Ugly comments please.
My Prelude used to be ODB, Old Dirt B...... (I'll let you figure out the rest)
So what is the OLU for?
