Not cheaper, but probably comparable - Directline did me £548 based on £36000 value, 33 years with full no-claims.

The best quote I got last July was £454.00 from Carole Nash (Bike specialist Insurers but now branching out) so I'm now with them. Oh, I'm late 40's with loads of no claims in "safe" postcode:cool:

Hope this helps, give them a try.

You can also try RAC and insure it as a classic car if it is over 10 years old and quote you will be doing less than 6000 miles per year. They don't ask for the current mileage so they don't know what your starting mileage is so in the unlikely event you be safe with your first accident/claim how ever many miles you drive. If no accident then you be laughing. This will severely reduce your premium. Worth a quote!

hi m8
with this caliber of car it needs to be a lot more than 10 years old for RAC.
i dont know where you got that from but this is what it states on their website
What is a classic car?
Manufactured at least 15 years ago as a standard production model (20 years for some vehicle makes, eg Porsche)

???

I'm with the RAC. I did a 'confused.com' search and it was the cheapest for me. 27 years old with 9 years no claims came to £700+. I thought it was an absolute bargain as the everybody else tried to sting me for between £1500-£2000!

I pay 670 (3.2 was a lot more than 3.2) insured for 28k.

I'm 26 with 4years NCB and 3 points.

This was massively cheaper than anywhere else as many others wouldn't even quote me and, like Nathan says some tried to get me for a couple of grand!

Churchill - got an extra £100 off for telling them I was expecting my renewal quote to be less than I got - they sorted me their best deal!

Think I'm about £600 with AON (classic policy) - 39 with 3yrs NCB, 3 points, value £17.5K, 1993, unlimited mileage, kept on driveway, spouse who's written off 2 cars! AON are generally excellent - came to them thru' the MX5 OC - but I don't think they have an internet service so won't be on Confused. 01384 552700.

I'm with AON also. Joined through the lotus club. I am currently paying £474. thats for a value of £26000 and garaged. I am 34 and have 6 points. This also covers me for 5 track days a year.
They offer this policy for all ages of cars although the prices do change. I think I paid about £670 last year but now the car is 10 years old it changes catagory and I believe it changes again at 15 yrs.
My favourie part of the policy is that I get to choose who repairs the car not them!

Hi simon

Never asked about cover abroad but can't see a problem. You need to notify them when you are going on track and they research the event before issuing a cover note(I assume to make sure it is not actually a race). Excess increases to 10% of the insured value.

Not sure what they will be like on the NSX but I got my best quotes on the RX7 from http://www.aplan.co.uk/ & http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/

I went with Sky as they gave me a good agreed value for an extra £35 on top of my quote.

Just renewed my car insurance and what a joke. I called all the people on this thread and the ones that would insure me wanted stupid restrictions. Norwich Union had quoted me £1081 to renew, about the same as last year. So decided to call all the usual suspects out of yellow pages, but so many people will not insure a NSX due to it being group 20. So after calling about 10 insures including going on the Honda website and filling in my details I thought I would call just one more or go back with Norwich Union, and what do you know they came up trumps and saved me £100 matching Norwich Union like for like, so for the next year I'm with Churchill and that stupid dog!

I would like to know how some of you are paying nearly half what I am, when I have 11 years NCD the car is garaged, I limit the millage to below 6000, but I do have 3 points.

Rob, I think I may be one of the youngest. 27 years old.

I'm due to get the NSX insurance renewed. RAC were good last year but has just been beaten by a company called Peart Insurance. They knocked off about £100 (£650) fully comp but limited mileage.

A1 were doing good deals for S2000s and NSXs so I went with them last year (premium just over £400).... renewal came through £50 more though - so I tried Livingstones who do classic/cherished car policies and got it back under £400.
That is a restricted mileage (5,000) but agreed value (£20k) policy.

I am happy at around the £400 mark, under 40 yrs old and medium/low risk postcode. No claims or points.

Kevin

£500 for unlimited mileage, whatever mods I want, Europe cover for free etc. They also paid out without question when I had an accident, and the renewal was even lower.

I was 27 when I first got the NSX, 8 years ago (back when they were expensive). I've never paid more than £600 in insurance.

anyone heard of Quidco?

they give you cashback for going through their website. Currently offering #100 cashback if you go through them and take out insurance with Pru, they are new to the car insurance market so I thought I'd give them a try and they were very competitive.

Quidco offer excellent cashback offers for house insurance as well - $125 back if you get it through Barclays!

Holy sh7t - that is good! protecting your no claims usually costs 100! you do know that protecting is a waste of time if you have 7yrs discount or more??

A claim will only lose you 2 years no claims (leaving you with 5 ie still max for a discount). It doesn't protect you against the question "have you had any claims in the last 3/5 years?" as even with protect NCD you will've still had a claim/accident.

The only thing about insurance quotes is that they include kept on street/driveway/garage, BUT no option to kept in a garage, on a military base with armed guards!!. I'm sure that must be the best anti theft system surely :)

James I pay about the same as you with 11 or 12 years NCD but some only care about the last 5 years and eithers 7 years, thats why they nearly all ask about any accidents or points in the last 5 years.

I have two cars both in group 20 insurance, both costing £30K+ I use my NCD on the X and it costs about £950, and the other with no NCD costs £975 so I've now decided that the whole insurance thing of upto 75% discount is a load of Bull!!!

I thionk direct line and a few others allow you to use your NCD for more than one car now if you insure bopth with them... worth looking into with premiums like that!

James- I work in insurance so know how it all works but each company has it's own way of calculating premiums which is why different companies are better for different people. Here are a couple of thiongs to consider about insurance:

NCD
- maximum discount usually with 5 years NCD
- a single claim in a year loses you 2 years' NCD
- anyone with 7 or more years would still be eligible to maximum discount after a single claim
- this does not apply if you claim more than once in a year as you lose 2 years' discount for each claim
- regardless of protected NCD you have still claimed in the last year so your future premiums will be affected

A lot of people think that protecting their NCD will protect their premium from going up in the event of a claim. This may be the case if you stick with your insurer but it is unlikely. If you change then you have a claim in your history so you will be a higher risk to other insurers.

CLAIMING
- A claim wipes out 2 years' NCD
- You also do not get an extra years NCD for the year in which the claim was made - effectively costing you three years' NCD
- This point alone will affect your premiums for up to 5 years as your NCD will be lower each time you renew (the higher NCD you start with the less it will affect you!)
- Also you have a claim on your history so this will affect your premiums for the next 3/5 years

In my situation damage would have to be about 4k before it was "worth" me claiming in the long term.

Also ... on elast thought!!

TQO has been insured with Tescos for ages and gets great premiums but they don't want to touch me even thouhg we have very similar stats. I'm not sure if I shot myself in the foot with them when getting a quote 7 years ago just after an accident and they have kept that on their system... would be a sensible thing to do to cut down risks - seems like they have somethinga gainst me!

Kevin

I have a protected NCD. I also made a claim, after an accident with another car that was my fault.

My premium the following renewal was less then the previous year's, not more.

The claim didn't affect me at all, but I think that applies if I stay with my insurance company, if I change now, then I'll have to fess up to a claim which won't be good.

Update on my post of 24/4 saying how impressed I was with the quotes from the talking dog.
When the time came to take up the insurance (NB quotes valid for 90 days) you can guess the outcome.
1) quote for NSX was "wrong" and done by "Trainee",Actual correct premium some £150 more.
2) And this got surreal.Accepting quote for my wifes S2000.Yes,quoted rate correct however just one more question,
Q Is the Alarm /Immobilisor a Thatcham Cat 1?
A I don't know,it's the standard factory fitted system for a UK spec car.
Q We must know if it is a TC1.We will need your certificate.
A What certificate, the instuctions take up 10 pages of the owners manual.
Q If it's not TC1 we will not insure your wife's car.You will have to get a certificate from your Honda Dealer

At this point I have googled Thatcham and am looking at a list of all UK spec cars listing the spec of their security system.Against S200 (all models '99 on)it confirms TC1.
A Thatcham website confirms status as TC1.
Q I will speak to our "technical dept"

Wait 4 minutes on hold

Q We still want a certificate
A Why? All S2000's are TC1 and I have confirmed car is UK vehicle and totally unmodified, including it,s security system.
Q We still want a certificate

Phone goes down. The dog has just lost another bone and if I knew a vet who would put down dogs if obviously suffering from such mental retardation I would pay up gladly.

Final update on the dreaded annual re-insurance game.Taking note of the good advice from several other members who use AON I contacted them and got the best overall deal going for P1 NSX.£525 for fully comp,2 named drivers, legal cover and, best of all agreed value. Then, to cap it all I don't have to use my max NCB as it is a classic car policy so I can put it on my daily user car and reduce it's current cost down by £200.As for my wifes S2000 and the brain dead dog I finally got a matching quote out of N.U. who thankfully allready knew the vehicle has a Thatcham Cat1 alarm!!

I did the wife's CTR at the same time and after cashback it was £304.

Excellent rates I think so worth a try.

Luke, fantastic quote/premium, do you mind telling us what the maximum excess is? What was the premiums with lower excesses? Thanks :)

There's a standard £250 excess and I chose a voluntary £500 excess.

I think upping the voluntary excess from £250 to £500 reduced the premium by about £50... I removed legal cover as well so it's hard to know how much each one was!

I look at it like this... the extra £250 excess for reducing the premium by £50 means the insurance company think I have a 20% chance of claiming during the year:eek: I'd like to think my propensity to claim is much lower so I've got a good deal by upping the excess!

Luke, isn't legal cover worth the extra 20 to 30 squids for the peace of mind!?

Arre you sure that by taking a voluntary £500 excess, your total excess is not now £750? In my experience, this is usually how these things work.

Legal cover isn't much more but if the worst were to happen (and it would be bad to need legal cover) then I have cover on my house insurance policy. I'm not sure this works for me when it comes to cars, I guess I've been so used to trying to get the premium as low as possible I just automatically say no to extras which I think are a rip off!

My total excess is £750. Given the way insurance premiums work any claim I would make would have to be upwards of £5k worth of damage. Hopefully this is very unlikely, I think less so than the extra premium they charge me for the excess so I whack it up. Some companies have much higher maximums and it's usually the case that upping from £500 to £1000 voluntary only saves you an extra £10 or so... that's not worth it! I guess you have to weigh up the extra premium with how likely you think you are to make a claim.

Adrian Flux have just saved me about £400 on the best quote I could find anywhere else. Just over £600 with a low excess, euro cover, euro breakdown, protected no claims, unlimited mileage. I'm 29, it's bang in the middle of London and I've got 6 points on my record. I'm absolutely chuffed, big thumbs up to Adrian Flux!

Regarding legal cover.

When I had my accident, I and the other driver had to pay our respective excesses. Then as the accident was my fault, he has to recover his excess from my insurance.

As he forgot legal cover he had to personally chase me to get the excess paid. I of course ignored it until he sent me a small claims court notice. Which I sent on to my insurers who paid his excess.

If he had legal cover, he wouldn't have to do any of that, as his insurance company would of recovered the excess, and paid him.

So for the hassle, you decide if it's worth it.

I have just renewed my insurance at a very pricey £220 with Privilege online:),I chose £750 excess and 5000 mile limit,no courtesy car,no legal protection.
Also had a quote from Caterham competition insurance which was around £428 and would have covered 4 notified track days.
Cheers,
Ian

Just renewed mine last week aged 44 full NCB (apart from Ariel Atom i wrote off on 15th Dec 07 which didnt affect my NCB buit i am sure buggered me up in other ways) 6 points some 3 years ago for doing the Ton plus and being silly enough to get snapped by you know who and paid £455 with £20,500 value plus 4,000 miles pa with A Plan £250 Excess and with legal cover (taken out due to hassle when i claimed me v Local Council to replace Council Bus Stop and Bus Shelter ). Quite happy with A Plan as i have 3 cars insured with them and they always give a good service and my previous involvement with insurance was with Fottman James who were the opposite experience to A Plan. They are worth a try as i can't be arsed with comparison websites as they are usually inaccurate and non personal service or no service at all.
