Painting Wipers

Hi,

The black paint on the windscreen wipers of my car seems to be deteriorating leaving the base metallic finish exposed in several patches. Has anyone had this problem before and tried painting them back to the original colour? If so, could you recommend a particular paint to use?

Mine too....I think they are a stove enamelled finish (egg shell), so maybe hard to reproduce out of a can.

Would also be interested if anyone has any info...

What about some matt black hammerite spray? Would that work?

I just used a tin on humbrol spray enamel, the satin black one though on the other cars.

That sounds the job. Presumably you have to take the wiper arm off to mask it properly . Are there any tips or tricks in doing this?

Erm................

A model shop several years ago, I think it is available in most model shop type places if you can find them ??
No primer, just sprayed, newspaper under the wiper blades and spray away.

Obviously on the NSX you will probably be a bit more careful but I don't see it being an issue, try doing it in a garage out of the wind and with smooth sweeps.

for the sake of the 2 nuts holding them on, take them off, and then you won't have to worry about over-spray!

Yup I have the same problem with mine, although a very long way down my "To-Do" list.

But I'll just take them off, re-spray and re-fit. Can't be that difficult.

not to dis the DIY but how much is it for a pair of new arms?

They all do that sir.

This happened on a regular basis to me and it is simple to resolve.

Remove the arms, have a look it is clear how they come off.

Rub down with 1200 grit wet and dry in the sink using washing up liquid and water as a lubricant.

Clean and dry off

Place on radiator or oven (even hot water will do) to warm the metal

Spray with 3 or so light coats of cellulose or acrylic SATIN black aerosol paint.

I have used several brands and they all do the same job.

Leave overnight to dry and harden then refit.

In 3 months repeat............................................ .........................
