Rob, where does that place your NSX on the TG laptimes board and more importantly, what other machinery have you beaten?

Given the Stig could only beat Rob by under 3 secs in the Type R, is a good time, well done Rob. And of course, your Dad was within a second :D

Just goes to show how much difference the driver makes. Being behind or overtaking a Lambo/Porsche etc on a track day means nothing about the car's performance.
3-6 secs, is a long time on a 1.30 lap. Just think 6 secs difference on a 10 lap race, would put someone a minute behind, and lapped in 15.

Type R came 55th place........rather disappointing considering the rave about the chassis etc. Bettered by TVRs, BMW, Cayman, Monaro and many more. I would accept defeat from the likes of lambos, Koenisegg, Zondas etc. What would our standard 'X' be positioned.

A bit late on this subject, but was this when the hamster drove the type R & slated it, where he said honda was trying too hard by putting thinner glass & fish net gear stick gaitor to save weight and Honda should get on with it's replacement? Where the Stig did the lap in the pouring rain, think Jezza generally says a wet lap worth 4 to 6 seconds? Where would that push the Type R up the board? As funny as the Hamster is, so if the Type R is about weight saving, what about the Porker GT3 or GT3RS !! Hypocrite & he drives a 997 Carrera Porker !

Not that we could be accused of being biased on this site in any way, but if you watch the NSX-R lap it's done in the worst conditions of any wet lap, I think the Stig could have done it quicker in a canoe. I think 6-8 seconds off that would be closer.

Maybe we should all write into TopGear and demand a re run on a dry track..............
you never know, stranger things have happened!!

The large part of the performance of the NSX-R is in the standard tyres it has. Now if those tyres were used on the Top Gear episode, they would of been hopeless in the wet. If it was dry and Honda or the current owner of the car doesn't have those tyres then the car's performance will suffer.
It's probably why the NSX-R always does so well in the BMI videos. In Japan it will be using its 'standard' tyre, which is a track tyre (RE070), while the other cars will most likely be using road tyres.
I don't know what the GT3 uses for its standard fit tyre, whether it is a track tyre or not. I know a lot of GT3 owners use Michelin Pilot Sport Cup.

Mutley I agree, shall we start a thread on maybe getting a petition and sending these to TG and see if Jezza and the team would re consider, they've have done so in the past with the Ascari KZ1, but that was in support of a British car !! We would also need to get hold of the current owners, which is a Honda garage I think as seen it on another thread, unless they are selling it on behalf of a private vendor, but it be good for the club and great exposure for Honda UK! Kill two birds with one stone ! :D
Kevin, the latest 997 generation of the GT3 does indeed use Michelin Pilot Cup, with a massive 305/30/19 on rears !! Imagine those on a X !! ;)

Exactly, got to be worth a try, what's the worst they can say, " How about NO ram it pie face"......... or words to that effect.

I remember the feature when Richard Hammond drove it, i think it was more about him having his own story to tell which included as many superlatives as possible rather than testing the NSX-R. Too much of Clarkson had rubbed on him perhaps...
As for my TG time, Plans have their own leaderboard in their place... generally led by Elises and Exiges but there are also TVRs, Subarus etc. too. I haven't checked the board for a little while so i'm sure i've slipped down. I will have another go at some point as i only got a few laps in.
I would definetly recommend their coaching.
