Looks like my clutch is on its way out,
Do any of you have an aftermarket performance clutch or do you all stick with OEM? Just trying to work out the best options for the replacement as well as trying to keep costs down, don't want to go for anything too extreme in pedal stiffness, judder etc but might be tempted by non OEM. It all comes down to availability, cost and timeframe of replacement. Will probably get Plans to do the work.
Any Recomendations?

Hi,
I was quoted ~£1200 for an OEM kit from the US (Ray Laks). Also check on SOS as they have a few alternatives as well as an OEM themselves. There is a great DIY on Prime and I am very temtped to have a go myself. For ref Norton said ~£400 to fit the clutch (and it has to be OEM).
From the things I have heard I would say OEM unless you are pushing higher power and melting standards ones. Again on Prime there are loads of people who have gone atermarket and had a bit of a shock at thepedal feel/weight.

I thought mine was on it's way out nearly 18 months ago, touch wood still going strong.
What signs are you getting ??

Not sure if you rem my clutch problem, but me and mate done mine ourselves. The camera died on us so I didn't get any photos of the procedure we adopted, but considering the car was on axle stands, it didn't take that long (2 man job, done in 1 - 2 days)
AND that was including haveing to make a clutch alignment tool, as the dealer that had one wouldn't lend it to me and the dealer that would didn't have one!!
Erm I did go for a cheap fix option on the plates too (got them refurbed/ recoated at a clutch specialist.... £25 per plate, collected next day) so I guess they won't last anywhere near as long as a new system, but I was on a budget.

Just had a service the other day, garage said its close, high bite point on pedal, its done 45,000 miles since replacement. Since then notice small amount of slip.
Yeomans Honda quote £1700 all in might go that route to avoid hassle as i might have to go back to work for a few weeks before jamesfest

Leigh, flash your Honda Revs card at them and they'll knock 10% off that price.

Hi guys, does £1700 sounds like average price from an Honda dealer? Is that the same Yeomans that used to be in Ferring, not far from you in Shoreham and they are an NSX dealer? Oh finally how can I get a Honda Revs card too? I assume everyone has one in this club? If so, could you please point me in the right directtion. Thanks James :D

Yeomans were an official NSX specialist in the day and they still have a tech working there, good bloke, can't remember his name. Gave me some good advice when I had mine serviced there.
HondaRevolutions.com is where you can join and get your discount card. I don't go there much but I think there was talk of folding the site, but I'm sure someone else will take it on. You may be lucky and be able to join still.

On the subject of the clutch, is it possible to fit the later single plate clutch to the 91-96? that would shave some cash. I think I read it was possible on Prime somewhere. Can anyone confirm?

Yes I read somewhere on Prime & one of the US stockists, that this is possible, but you have to purchase an extra part, looks like a short splined shaft, so that the later 6 speed clutch kits can be adapted for use in a 5 speed gear box casing! :D I did'nt realise that 5 speed clutches are alot more expensive than 6 speed, is this because the 5 speed have twin clutches as oppose to one on the 6 speed? What is the price difference?

I (and i assume all other revs members) received a letter saying they are having probs with the running of the club, but did send me a new card.
Go to the honda revolutions site and have a look.
(My local dealer in NI gives me 15% on parts 10 % on labour)

You don't want a 6 speed clutch. They have a different flywheel which is heavier than the 5 speed. The NSX-R wouldn't use the superior twin plate clutch for no reason you know.
I didn't think though that a five speed gearbox would need changing to use a 6 speed clutch. The speed shaft has a longer set of splines on it, so I would of thought it workbe able to use both clutches.
The 6 speed gearbox does need a different input shaft to use the twin plate clutch.

Hi NSXselby, so you live near Warrington?, thats not a million miles from me just down the M62 or East Lancs Rd near Manchesterland!, are you coming to Japfest ? Papa or James says the deadline is Monday as per the thread in 2007 events. I have got a convoy of two Xs with Bazza whose coming from Yorkshire/Leedish. Would be great if you were to join us with a convoy from the North ! Thanks for the TDI details, will come in handy for the future! Does the work done come with a mileage or time warranty and did they fit an geniune OEM Honda clutch kit? Also did they reskimmed the fly wheel as I believe if you change the clutch kit, its better to do this for a smoother changes?
Regards James :D
PS. Hope I done you proud Papa, I use the less in your face approach ;)

Hi Leigh,
I had a clutch change last year by John Cooper's (now Yeoman's) most experienced tech Paul who is now gardening! but will freelance on the cars- I think £400 labour. New clutch set inc flywheel & release bearing was £850 from Dirk. Paul was using premises in Washington W Sussex. PM me if you want his details,
Regards,
John

With half decent facilities and a little time, it's a fairly straight forward job, maybe not for the faint hearted in the DIY world, but the most difficult part we found was replaceing the gear box......... and that was only because it's a heavy B*****D of a thing!!
