Taken from another forum so might not be true.................

Apparently the proper ones are made in Germany. Ones made in Thailand are not for UK market and have a different compound. Edit: I posted that "The ones from China seem to be copies altogether" but apparently the china ones might be ok according to goodyear.
There is an E13 number in a circle on the Thailand ones - but it should also have another number next to it, which it doesn't. Here's an explanation on dunlops site:
http://www.dunloptyres.co.uk/ourTyres/car/sidewallMarkings/

So check your tires, get em receipts out and get em sorted. More info can be found from here on:
http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=106441

And I'll quote from one of the further forums linked there:

Thanks for your e-mail. Please find a link on our sister company Dunlops site to a tyre sidewall. http://www.dunloptyres.co.uk/ourTyre...ewallMarkings/

The letter F on the link shows you a box or a circle and inside this is an E with a number eg E13 or E5. Outside that box or circle should be a further number. The number outside the box or circle is the E mark. If your tyre does not have the number after the E13 / E5 then the tyre is not E marked and illegal for fitting in this country for use on UK roads.

By clicking on letter F you will find out more information on E marks. Should you need to contact me my number is ***** ********.

If you have a non E marked tyre you will need to advise your dealer who supplied the tyres or trading standards.

Kevin,

Have you asked Robert (Tireman) of Redstar? He sorted my rims and tyres and has just done SilverSurfer's brakes.

He supplies competition tyres (mainly Michelins IIRC) but as an independant may be able to assist if there's anough interest from the club members.

I would of thought it worth a call/pm

Absolutely.

Is saving a few hundred quid worth the consequences of running tyres of an unknown quantity?
