Engine Cover

Seen this on an NSX in Japan. Anyone seen it before?

I think it's one of the top end guys, but yes seen that and a fair few other in Japan. Am looking at importing some (well some of the nicer ones) at some stage.

Why add weight? Remove the whole thing...

I'm not a fan of carbon dress up really, kind of defeats the point.

It's a shame the NSX's engine isn't much of a sight to look at.

There is some people who have had small stones or a belt go and smash their rear hatch.

Also the engine is quite a sight to behold, if it is cleaan and well dress, no neeed for bling, just a few R bits and it is transformed.

I appreciated the £££ and effort you put into your engine dress up, it looks nice. You like it, it is your car and your taste. To me is too much. It must be a pain when the sun hits it at the right angle.

I certainly don't think you're not improving it... it's just that i could think of countless other places where i'd rather spend my money!

When you look at a nice symetrical longitudual engine in a Ferrari or such look it makes the NSX's look tame IMO...

For example the R8 i saw yesterday has a similar entry price to what the NSX had, and yet look at the difference:

You're right the sun can be abit of a pain with the reflection sometimes, good job it's not sunny that often in the UK, not when i'm home anyway.
Goto admit the R8 does look pretty special though, definately reckon one of those is on the cards.

I'm keen to replace the engine cover but would only look to do this with the OEM Type R option, a) because it looks good and b) it will provide that important protection for the rear hatch.

Dave, I think your engine looks good if not to my taste, I will probably 'dress' with a few small changes like header tank, intake cover and maybe aeroquip hoses to compliment the Procar intake system.

Just my 2p's worth ....and of course it does reduce a little weight into the bargain

Now if only Detlef would produce a replacement a-frame in alli and CF that would be really nice to display!

We thought about that many years before, but after we
had the Honda NSX-R JDM engine cover in hands, we understand that this part isnt topable in weight and
optic.
We alsways have 1 or 2 units in stock, most people decide to go that way.
The engine bay should be clean for that and it is no fault to install some more NSX-R goodies like intake manifold cover, valve covers and the black rubber piece for the coolant tank cover.

No engine cover looks so naked, not an elegant solution.

The OEM cover is the only way to go IMO. The part I would be interested in is to replace the dull black triangle frame on the Targa.

Something like the attached Lambo photo maybe?

I would of thought some of the Type R replica boys on Prime would be very interested, same as I would.

Could you fabricate a sample to show and guage interest? I would of thought that you may even get advance orders/deposits for the right product/price, which may in turn offer the part more competitively for the early buyers by easing your development cash flow?

I wouldn't worry about the 'mafia', take the copies as a compliment. Please consider this part.

If you compare all the following, Lambo, Fezza, Ford GT, Zonda et all they have one thing in common, the engine is placed longways in the engine bay, compare this to the NSX and Lotus Esprit (small four pot I know) and you use up less room plus move the weight more to the middle and as a bonus you get a boot to boot (no pun intended). Yes not as pleasing to look at, but more practical.
This is also evedent in bikes, with the Ducati exhaust a work of art, and the japanese bikes exhaust fit for purpose to give best exhaust flow. This also can explain why the 911 Porche engine position has only been copied by Skoda.

Get a fezza if you like that kind of open engine thing.... I suppose once it's broken down, they have to show off something to take the observers mind off the fact.

I would also agree! I own a Diablo VT and compared to the NSX it doesnt feel anywhere as near balanced. The Diablo also suffers from just being too big and wide and feels very heavy and pretty scary to drive at times, but a stunning car non the less.
