Just some useful info

Had a new clutch fitted a week before Japfest, It was only when i picked the car up and drove it for a while i realised that the differential was seized. Managed to get the car to Japfest and back on a flatbed truck expecting a nasty repair. Turned out that the gearbox had been filled with the wrong oil.

Work was done by Plans Motorsport who i'me not blaming for this as their manual for the NSX states to use Engine Oil in the gearbox of 5 speeds, and Honda MTF in 6 speed transmissions. (mines a 5 speed) After changing the oil to Honda MTF the differential now works ok. Still a bit noisy so might require another flush through soon.

Spoke to lincoln Honda about this and they say the manual was changed for 5 speeds to use MTF. Might be some useful info for those with early manuals off ebay, or who experience a stuck diff after a service

Hope this helps

Well if they are supposed to be 'NSX Specialists' they should know what oil to put in the gearbox.

sorry to be useless (again) but the title of your thread has forced me to post as it disturbs me every time I glance across it as it reads something else:eek:.

Either way I suppose it would be NSX related so I can't complain:laugh:

Glad to see it wasn't major Lee, after the worry a welcome fix I guess!

Wrong diff oil used by someone you paid to do the work, you are far more forgiving than I would have been! Its up to places like Plans to know this especially as they are touting as specialists? That's one strike for them in my little black book ;)

Luke you are useless but I did the same thing with the title :)

Not just me then....

Plans say they want to help with my suspension etc, but want to see the car...that's a long way to trailer it...

My gearchange is much slicker and less difficult to get in gear since I have relaced the oil with Opie's Motul recomendation!

Getting the right oil for the gearbox definately makes a difference.

Its not really about being forgiving, the manual they were using states the wrong oil,

Had the same fault 3 years ago but that was done by the South Coast Honda NSX main dealer and cost me a lot more to rectify as i had to replace the diff then. This time didnt cost me anything so no point getting stressed by it, and in general i like the work they do.
