I'm still on my first NSX but this reminds me of a thread on Blatchat (Lotus 7 site) entitled Triggers broom, it was talking about who had replaced the most parts on their car.

One guy reckoned he had replaced everything apart from one headlight and a front wing, both less than £100 on a Caterham ;-) That includes chassis, engine the lot!

Looking to loose as many non essentials from as I can live without. Still tame by Darren's or Kevin standards, but should be lighter than my last car when I am done!

Would be interesting for you to document the weight loss and see what sort of KG's it sheds. I was pretty amazed when reading that Brian Long book the other night to refresh my mind on the S and S-Zero that the S-Zero was a whopping 55KG's lighter than the S and that in turn 40KG's lighter than a standard coupe!

I wonder what sort of figures are achieveable whilst still keeping the car drivable in terms of comfort?

I wish I had the money to have a second X to go down your route with Ary - would be a nice eXperiment!

Well ours is 1250kg but that is with a rollcage which is a quite substanial. Bare in mind that is with fluids too, the NSX-R weight is 1270kg and that is most likely dry weight...

Personally i don't think air con is neccessary for a car if you only use it at the weekends, because ultimately you can opt when to use it. I'd also opt for a nice exhaust rather than a stereo which can save a few KGs...

Just removing air con and getting lighter seats would save a very substanial amount.

Cool - but is it good to have a car you don't opt to use for the 2 or three months a year when it is hot because you boil to death in it?! When my aircon needed re-gassing last year it wasn't pleasant - that cabin gets mighty hot in the sun!

I guess it's how far individuals are prepared to compromise.

If you're not ever tracking the car then i would say the convienence of air-con is worth it's keep, but otherwise it's not needed unless you have a compulsion to join long queues on hot days!

From my experience as long as you're moving it's easy to handle boiling hot days with the windows open.

I'm on my first NSX, and I hope to keep as long as possible too. If I was a sane person, I'd probably trade up for one maybe a bit newer, or in better condition, but having done the vast amount of work on it already, I don't think I could ever part with it now. I'll just keep plugging away at all the wee faults and hopefully one day it will be as it should. (give or take a few mods from standard, but nothing major).

Although it's sorely testing my patience at present, by the time I've spent everything on it, and kept up its proper maintenance, it's probably still a keeper.

Although Susan is using the old Landie for her dog-walking business, and that keeps breaking down too. Not unreasonably, she did let fly the other day about the iniquity of this, given the diversion of funds to keep the NSX on the road. I fear that she did use language unbecoming of a lady, and I did fear for my immediate safety.

If you having landy trouble, although I don't have all my tools here yet, but I'm just down the road until the 18th if you need a hand with it? ( Rem I started of an an engineer in ther RAF so landrovers fit into that category!!!)

I like to find a good one then welcome it to stay.

I bought my CRX in May 1998 and she is still here.

I bought the NSX Feb 2002 and she is still here.

Actually not here right now as she is away getting a full (and I mean FULL) service, plus a few bits and bobs so when she returns, she will be in very very fine health. Looking forward to getting her back. No plans to replace with a newer one, the older ones need good homes that will look after them.....

I've owned S2 since April 06 and still have to pinch myself that its mine!

Have added my own signature and intend keeping it long enough to hand down to Baby Senninha one day :D

Maybe an interesting extra question might be to ask length of ownership?

Very kind, mate. Keeps cutting out, testing patience of local LR/lpg specialist...there may be a rationalisation plan afoot soon anyway involving a nicer LR & losing Sue's 2 vehicles!
