Wander what this will go for? "Cheapest 04 in the world!" The way the guy written the ad description seems like hes a bit of wideboy?! Does anyone know of this car prior to its unfortunate run in with the thief? I feel this car could be cheap for the year, but may be potentially jinxed ? Wheels would have to be changed! :(

OH MY GOD!! That thing is in rough shape inside! When he said interior was stripped he wasnt joking!! Not even the original dash was left! If you could find a complete interior for decent money then it may be a good project, I wonder how much of the original wiring loom was left? A quick HPI check suggests

Fuel: Petrol

Mix it with Siofkents old car, It could be a 'phoenix' project!

Shame Amo has sold off all the interior.

Photos of the car did go up on this site when a salvage yard was selling it, and IIRC it was painted blue and white with some logos on it, and somebody looked into it's history then. I think the story he is telling is true.

Hi,

If anyone wants my opinion on this car feel free to PM. James and I considred purchasing this car from the insurance company when it was up for auction (and we know how much it went for FWIW) and I drove to Bristol to view it in it's white and blue state - made me feel quite sick actually!

I made a lot of discoveries about where it had been too after we let it go and I'm 99% certain I have the address of the person who was driving it prior to it being 'recovered' if anyone felt like making contact and seeing if they would ask how it was driven etc! It is interesting to see that someone has sprayed it back to silver though.

Anyway my opinion is there if anyone wants...

Cheers, Matt.

Some pics of how it was pre it's third spray:

I'd say it is still worth getting as a track car, it's just getting it for the right price.

I imagine the NSX was stolen for a reason, not so some 15 year old scrotes could rag it around a field until it blew up, so i doubt it's really suffered mechanically.

I agree, that car is a 'world of resale pain'.
If you end up paying 16-18K for it, you've then got to spend ££££'s to get it straight and how many 02+ interiors are there knocking around? I wonder whether you could send it back to the factory for a refresh??!!!

Cheers,

James.

The car is just a mess basically - and the holes that have been cut through the bulk head etc to remove the VIN plates just made me sad to look at. Who know's how it was driven when it was taken and what shape the engine is in....

Rob_Fenn
11-06-2007, 05:41 PM
I think it's fair to say it will never make it back as a proper road car, you'd end up paying more than for a decent car to begin with, but surely it's still worth half the original cost?

Anyone know how much he got it for?

I don't see the problem... say the reserve is £20k then you still get a half price car. Fine, if you want a road car then it makes no financial or logical sense, but as a base for a track day car i'd say it's a worth buying.

I've never seen a CAT C/D car go for less than half it's normal market value. I'd love to know what the seller originally paid for it though.

I disagree on the basis that a good 3.0 can be have for 5K less than that. You can strip out the interior completely and sell it and still have money for mods. Once you get tired you can sell it.

02 plus cars have gone for 32k.

I think that car sold for 10K or thereabouts.

But if you start talking like that you could get a Lotus Elise for less than a 3.0 NSX and probably be quicker...

You have a good point about resale, but even with ours i think we have gone to the point of no return. I'd say it would be very hard to sell now, plus we'd never get the money back so there isn't much point.

I nearly did the Elise thing but for me it comes down to the overall package, not whether one car is faster than another.
Because in the end, you have to like the car you're driving. For me that means well built, crash resistant, characterful, low depreciation and good looks.
The Elise probably does handle better, but it suffers badly on the other criteria. I don't think it'll ever be a classic like an NSX.

Cheers,

James.

By the way, that 04 sold for; £11,500.00 when it was auctioned and was still blue and white.

Elise, no. Not faster on a decent size track. Had a go in a supercharged Exige on last track day, not impressed there either.

Though buying that NSX now for 20k and putting another 10k into it for go faster parts still won't make sense.

Get a GT3.

I concur about the Lotus Elise too. Kevin theres no way you could buy the older 996 GT3 for 30K (unless its abused & very high mileage) they hold their value extremly well, in fact its the lowest Porsche depreciator, more like the nearly £40k? :dunno::unsure:

My point is if you want a facelift NSX, you want a facelift NSX. For teh same money you could get a quicker car, a more comfortable car, or a more economical car. But if you want a facelift NSX you have an opportunity to get a bargain, especially if it will be mainly a trackday car.

I'm not sure i could cope paying £20k if the guy almost paid half though!

I was hoping you were going to add a poll for the fun if it :)

So if you add a generous £3.5k for a 'reasonable' respray the car owes £15k tops. At £17k plus a few quid for used dash and some trim you could have a good track car.

IMO, this is not a car you would try and restore to road use and resale, maybe different if you intend to be a keeper and as Rob says, you want the 02 style.

Agreed! Wheres the logic in paying 20K, when it was brought from the insurers for just over 10K!! Unless the paint job from blue/white to silver cost 10K !! IF you got it for 10K from the insurers, then thats alot more feasible for converting to a proper tracking beast.
