I am purchasing a set of the 7 spoke 1994 - 2001 wheels from a member of the board.

I am considering going with 225 45 16 and 255 40 17.

I have read that people have not had any problems with these sizes in the US of A as our friend Borat says!

Have any of you used this combo?

Cheers,

AR

Hi again AR!

I run 225 40 16 and 255 40 17 on these wheels, absolutely no problems and the rolling radius is almost identical to the original 15" 16" wheels. The 17" 18" tyres sizes are also almost identical in rolling radius too so ill effects.

Recommended.

Yep, hitherto had same as Mo's, but have gone back to 215/245 (albeit with incorrect 40 profile at front). No real problems, but manual steering feels slightly sharper on 215s.

Where are my darts! (nearly 501 threads!) Ary, a member of the board, Simon or Papa? I am considering upping to 255s on my oems 17 too when they need changing & probably theres a greater choice of tyres. Would upping to 225 fronts not affect steering feel with a PAS car & catch the inner wheel arch on oems 16?. Also are there more choices of tyres with 225, rather than 215 since they are a uncommon combo with 16?

The reason I am looking to go up is the extra availabilty of tyres. I read that as long as the car is not lowered it will not rub. I must be the minority, but I love the feeling of non PAS and bigger tyres.

same reason I initially sized up

I'm over an inch lower than stock height on H&R springs, so my comments may not be directly helpful.

at the front I had rubbing on the inside rear of the front inner arches on full lock, and at the rear I had some rubbing on the springs under compression.

some 5mm spacers helped the front and solved the rear issues

fully solved the front rubbing with a hammer on the inner arches and then re-covered the remodelled area with that spray on underseal stuff that's already covering that area.

now with the Volks on (+40 offset front & rear) I run 255 & 265 with no spacers and no problems

it's not as big a deal as it might sound - just a little 'reshaping' lol

needs must!
