Service Kit

Hello everyone,

My 3.2 1998 manual is due a new cambelt and plugs service this year. I'm tempted to get the waterpump done at the same time. My local Honda dealer has quoted me about £1200 for the work and the bits (waterpump, belt and 6 plugs) but will fit the bits if I can provide them. They reckon they'll need 6.5 hours at £70ph...

I know Dali does a service kit, but a few of us have had big problems with him..Does anyone know of any alternatives to Dali and SOS? The closer to home the better!

If you're going for money saving I guess the US is the only option.

Alternatively I guess it'll be Honda prices :(

My 2000 3.2 is due it's cam belt change this September I think, and I have had a water pump and cam belt over from Dali, which I think saved me about £200 or thereabouts. I have to say I had no problems but it was part of an order Luke placed TBH. That would make the service quite cheap compared to your quote, what do they want for the individual items on the service?

The water pump still concerns me, especially ordering from the US.

If Honda order the wrong one then their look out, if you get the wrong one then I don't imagine there will be any come back.

I agree you might struggle with a water pump. Platnium tip long life spark plugs are easier to get as theres a number of threads on the search option here. Maybe try *** parts as seen cambelts two weeks ago & alot cheaper than HUK prices. TQO whats TBH mate?
Q. Is it always precautionary to fit new water pump when changing cambelts or is it an mileage or age requirement?

Water pump is inspected at cambelt change, but to be honest I'll be having mine changed as a precaution regardless.

Doh re TBH! :doh: I had my cambelts & spark plugs done early than the service manual stated since I negotiated that it should be done as part of the sale! :) I think its 7 years with 3.2s & 6 with 3.0. I'm not sure if they checked the water pump though? I suppose it would be highlighted as part of the annual service since they do a general health check at my Honda dealership? :unsure:

I've just been adviced by a "X" tech that the water pump needs inspecting at the Cam belt change but only really needs changing after approx 150K.

Cam belt change including the new belt 317 squids all in! (inc 6 hrs labour). :D

Thats cheap, non Honda I assume? Was it someone here or your friendly local garage? I hope he has'nt ripped you off as you said cambelt !? When you doing the other one?! ;)

Ask Leigh though about the water pump and many on Prime - lets put it this way, new engine if it lets go (circa £7K) or £200 odd quid plus about 45mins extra labour on top of the cambelt if you change it...

I'm comfortable with the US part from Dali...as it is in a OEM Honda box with correct part number etc.

Dutton Forshaw Honda (Bexleyheath, Kent) have quoted the following:

6 spark plugs at £127 inc. VAT
Waterpump £384 inc. VAT (Will be changing as a precaution)
T Belt £123 inc. VAT

Labour 6.5-7 hours at (£82ph inc. VAT) Approx £575..

Total of about £1200.

www.partsformx5.com do the waterpump for £280 inc. VAT, the belt for £73 inc. VAT... They are UK based too... Anyone had any experience with them?

Spark plugs can be had for half that price from www.sparkplugs.co.uk

I would be tempted to get the water pump from Dali / SOS / US Acura dealer anyway and 'if' it's wrong then hopefully someone over here will have the correct one.

I've emailed SoS and will hopefully hear back from them next week. As I said before, I just can't risk using Dali/Mark Johnson despite his reasonable prices..

Its not a genuine item but a Quintin Hazel is a widley used aftermarket water pump through out the motor trade.

If you go to the main website and search for it you can currently get it a couple of quid cheaper at £149.35 https://www.sapmotorparts.com/ :)

Costs were:
Water pump $262
Belt $152
Valve gaskets x2 $35
Tube seals x6 $30
Washer head cover x12 $58
Postage $60
Import tax £57

Total approx £360.

Spark plugs from www.spark-plugs.co.uk cost £55 inc p+p for 6 OEM's. Took around 4 days...

Grand total of £415 - Honda UK would have wanted £730 for the same bits!!!

Just goes to show, that shopping around certailny does benefit the pocket.

I doub't I'll buy much from Honda UK when you can get OEM cheaper elsewhere.

Did you get cam seals? You need to change them. I have a spare set if you are desperate....

I have 2 packets of 3 black rubbery things (valve gaskets) 6 rubber rings (tube seals I guess) and 12 smaller plastic rings (must be washer head covers)...Are either of these last 2 items what you mean?

There should be 4 of them. Black hard rubber grommet like things. I was under the impression that it was a known weak point in the NSX engine, in that they go hard and weep slightly after a while?

Part number for the cam seals is 12513-PR7-A00, I believe. About £6 each +VAT from the Stealership, you will need 4.
