Hi all

I am "trying" to buy brake rotors from Bazza (VTEC Direct), for which he needs a VIN number.

On his 1994 NSX-R, it takes the form NA1-nnnnnnn, where each "n" stands for a number.

On my 1996 NSX, it takes the form JHMNA1 nnnnTnnnnnn.

Bazza says the car-appropriate brake rotors to go for depend on whether your car is pre or post 1400000.

Anyone know how mine translates?

Cheers
Martin

If it helps Bazza's NSX-R is a *** import coupe, and mine is a UK coupe.

?? Come on you brainy NSX owners :-)

Just give him the whole VIN number and let him work it outand take what info he needs.

Mutley, thanks but I did give him the full number. My first thread above shows I gave him JHMNA1 nnnnTnnnnnn, i.e. the full number.

Cheers

Oh right I misread, anyway I'm sure he'll be able to source the correct brakes for you. Something that I'll have to have a look at in the future, I'm still on standard.

NSX brake rotors changed at build 1400001 which are the same rotors used on the NA2 model.

My VIN is just NA1-12*****. Martin's reads JHMNA116**T4*****.

Obviously, mine is JDM and Martin's UKDM.

Now, dropping the JHM and the 16**T you are left with a code similar to the JDM code: NA1-14*****

Just want to confirm this is correct before ordering £300+ worth of rotors :)

Strangely I just got some front disc from Barry when we had a mini Northern meet last Friday, but when I ordered my, he didn't ask for the chassis number? He did'nt even ask for the diameter & size? I've checked the box, its got NA2 which are the 3.2 97+ & also measured them and they are spot on! Is yours a NA1? Maybe hes needs the chassis because of this? HTH :)

James,

I didn't need your chassis number as I knew you had an NA2. :)
There are 2 rotors listed for NA1, one for builds up to 1400000 and one for NA1 builds from 1400001 which is also rotor used for NA2.

Martin, if you measure your existing rotors then you should be able to tell which ones they are.

I suppose you learn something new every day though, I thought all NA1's had the smaller rotors and only the NA2's had the larger ones. RacingBrake also state 97+ for the larger rotors.

I've definately seen cars which originally had the 16/17 wheel combination running the smaller rotors.

NA1 - F 282 R 282 (source Black Diamond)

NA2 - F 298 R 303 (Source Racing Brake)

According to Honda parts for a 96 3.0 and a 97 3.2 are........

1996 3.0
F 45251-SL0-030
R 43251-SL0-010
(Same as a 1991)

1997 3.2
F 45251-SL0-J00
R 43251-SL0-J00

If you PM me your VIN number then I can look at parts specific for your car.

IIRC, the numbers were rationalised at a certain time, so earlier cars may be different. They DO vary in format according to region an it's in Europe that they all start JHMNA1 or 2.

The last six digits vary according to the region, year and model code (the four digits before the T (or S if it's a new one!) so a bigger six digit doesn't necessarily indicate a newer car. So you can't necessarily rely just on the last six.

It's all a bit confusing, I'm afraid.

You could do a search...
