Evening all, I have been toying with the idea of putting new wheels on my NSX. I'm not and never have been into the modifying seen but I sometimes think the wheels are too small. Sometimes it bothers me and other times I like them. Newer supercars all have huge wheels as standard and they do look stunning. I love the way the NSX looks but I feel it might look achingly beautiful with bigger wheels.

The problem is i can't find a style I like or suit the NSX. Can anyone recommend what size is best, what wheels are best and post some pictures of what they like best?

Your best option would be to look on NSX Prime, they all seem to like larger wheels over there.

As for cars in the UK I think Crazy Mixed Up Kids and James's are about the nicest.

I don't like the BBS look wheels (sorry). I've seen the grey car before and really liked it. If I put 17's front & 18's rear would I need to lower the car ( I don't want to go down that road )?

I remember seeing these wheels on a red car for sale on Autotrader a wee while ago. I would never have chosen these wheels but they looked amazing. In Brian Long book about the NSX the original sketches had wheels like this. Does anyone remember this car or have a picture of it?

The Honda range of wheels look the best.

I've been through all sorts of changes, but when I see a picture of a completely standard car in good condition even with 15/16 wheels I think it looks nice in a unmolested kind of way.

Simple straight spokes are best. Nothing too big and no chrome.

You don't have to lower the car for any wheel changes.

no need to lower with 17's/18's... mine isn't and I think it looks fine, and can go over speed bumps without worrying!

I second that! I know its all subjective what people like the look of, but I agree with Kevin, nothing too large or bling or chrome! Those look like Lambos when they were on Diablos or on a few hot Alfa Romeos! Simple straight spokes are the most suited & liked here. Most desirables that people talk about here are;

The GC-05F look great (my fave)! & GC-07C look like OEM 94+ to 51 reg

Stick to OEM wheels and all will be well. No issues with additional load or wear to suspension components from extra offset etc. Also, larger means heavier which could change the way your NSX will handle.

A lot of the guys on Prime only use their NSX as cruisers on lovely smooth tarmac. A set of 19/20 inch combo would be dreadful over here. Even going to 17/18 will effect the handling. In addition, the NSX does not have the largest set of brakes as standard. Fit larger wheels and they will look sooooooo small that they will detract from the improved looks you're after.

THey are hard to find but worth the wait, I would strongly recomend the 02+ Honda rim

Craig as I mentioned last Thursday in Motherwell, I know the feeling well, I have standard 15/16 inch wheels and I would love to go bigger too, maybe 17 all round, but i'm buggered if I can find a wheel to suit the car other than late OEM.

Yeah those are nice and similar to OEM in a way but I have this thing about even number of spokes, I prefer an odd number.

It's funny because this morning I really liked the wheels and when I look at Senninha car next to the Tornado i really like them too.

As I said I'm not into the whole modified 22" look because I have concerns about extra weight, handling, steering feel and our terrible, horrific, dangerous, shocking, crater pitted and windy roads! If I was buying a new set I would buy forged wheels. I do like the idea of OEM wheels because the car wouldn't look tampered with but just a nice special edition.

Because my car is silver I thought about powder coating the wheels to a lighter aluminum colour. They are dark aluminum (don't know the correct terminology) and suit dark colours best. Maybe the same standard wheels but lighter to suit the silver might be nice but how do I get lighter centre caps??? Arrgh! decisions:think:

Have a look in the NSX Garage at Simon's (NSXGB) car. His is silver with the refinished alloys in the lighter color and IMO looks very good.

You can get the caps painted with the wheels but will need to have the H badge either painted or made as a sticker to replace the OEM which is likely to be damaged during removel for the repaint. I dont know if they are available as a replacement part?

Bigger wheels may alter the feel of the car.

Last year I put set of non OEM bigger wheels on my NSX. 17" front and 18" rears with wide low profile tyres to maintain the rolling diameter of the 15/16" originals. They completely changed the handling, reacting to every imperfection in the road and tramlining horribly. I have now put the originals back on and the car feels much better. Kevin has the wide wheels now for track use.

I woudl recommend if going larger stick to OEM from later models - Honda knew what they were doing.

Craig, as Paul says you simply can't go wrong with OEMS! If you already have the 94+, my NSX is Sebring Silver and I have the alloys restored to a lighter colour, which you can view in NSX Garage. When I get them restored in the future again as not 100% happy with the job they did last time, may go back to OEM darker silver?, but I must admit the lighter silver grown on me now? Just call me Mr OEM ! HTH :)

They are 6.9kg and 8.3kg.

In comparison, the 16"/17" OEMs (which are the ones which look alike) are 7.6kg and 9.4kg

I have been looking at wheels for ages and am more swung in my choices by weight.

Heres how it breaks down:

HONDA OEM - 6.5x15" 6.9kg 7x16" 7.8kg

8.5x17 9.5kg

these are not that light. work emotion aren't too bad weight wise, but my favourites are:

VOLK CE28N- 7x16 5.4kg
7.5x17 6.3kg
8x18 6.7kg
8.5x19 8.8kg

I think if you were going up in size for cosmetics but still wanted to keep minimum weight without crazy widths, these are the ones to go for.

However, I'm a bit oem and these are the ultimate nsx fit only wheels for me (google to get pics)

MUGEN MF10 7x16 5.0kg (!)
7.5x17 6.4kg

Not crazy sizes but i love them because they are oem size and offset, light as a feather and rare as rocking horse sh1t. Cool.

I'm on oem 15" and 16" and I like how it handles, i'd love to go with the mugen wheels and r888 tyres, maybe type-s suspension. For an occaisionally driven road car, for me thats about as good as it gets.

They may weigh light, but the centre look a little spider webby if you know what I mean! The spokes do look a little OZ Superlggras-ish too! Maybe great as low weight for tracking.

James mugens look awsome in the flesh. I had some ROTA copies on my DC2 and i loved them. Really sculpted and give room for the brakes for air imo.
