Hi Guys,

I know generally importers are more expensive to insure, is this the case for the JDM NSX too?

Cheers,

Rob

Most of the DC5 forum seem to be with A-PLAN insurance.

and when i was getting quotes they were the best for me too, although mine is a UK car.

I've found that some insurers won't touch imports, it's just their company, actually brand, policy OR they load them enormously. Try insuring your import with Elephant online for example!

Most insurance companies have sub brands that specialise in either performance cars, imported cars, modified cars, lady drivers, young drivers, old drivers or any combination of these... there will soon be a niche for everyone ;)

It makes sense that imported cars should be more expensive to insure, due to parts cost and availability, but the vagaries of the insurance world mean that this isn't the case as no two companies are judging the risk on same criteria. Ohh and an individual company's criteria change weekly!

I'm afraid your best option is to ring around every insurance company every year to get the best price.

Which reminds me, W.T.F, if they all share information as stated on their recorded pre-ambles, do I have to repeat it ALL for a quote from each company... maddening!

Thanks for the responses.

It's a shame those price comparison sites don't give you the best deal. As you say, seems best to ring around just about every one!

Rob, forgot to mention I'm currently with The AA insurance!

Up until last year, despite their telly ad claims, they've always been comically expensive for the performance cars I've had, then all of a sudden they were not just competitive but the cheapest. They must have decided to buy business in this sector.

I wouldn't count on them being competitive now though, they may have swung back to 35-36 yr old females living in Aylesbury drving Silver Focus 1.6 Zetec's only :)

Having difficulties with the import... oh well... quote for a UK car at £19k is £1880 with Elephant so far!

Try Perfomance Insurance, they will check on the best price and pass it on.

I insured mine in November through A-Plan Thatcham.
Don't think it cost any more than a UK car.

The first quote was with Groupama for £420 but it had a windscreen limit of £500
So the one I went for was with Markerstudy and was £450 with no windscreen limit.

Both of the above included £30 for Legal insurance.

I have a clean license and full no claims discount.

that explain why A-plan would not have us!
