Hatch opening lever dodgy?

My hatch level is not flush with the interior pillar trim and seems to be in the open position even when I shut the hatch to lock position. It only takes a little pull on the lever to re-open the hatch! Is this normal?

No, it sounds someone either reinstalled it the wrong way or forced it, it should be vertical.

Should not be too hard to realign.
