Does anyone have the truly honest, definite, word on when to replace the cam belt? The service book says 60,000 miles, with NO reference to time.
However, some five years ago, I was persuaded by the then dealers, John Coopers of Ferring, to have it changed even though the mileage was a mere 7,000 miles, simply because the car was five years old. Since then, I have done less than 19,000 and feel that this is nothing for a cam belt. J. C.

It is recommended that the belt should be changed on milage OR time. What year is your car?I can't remember what the exact time details are but an NA1 needs changing earlier than an NA2.

6 years.

Low-milers like me can practically go to 8 years or so. But this is no official recommendation! That's just what I do. ;)

For 91-96 NSX is to replace it at 90K miles or 6 years, whichever comes first.

Or 60K even ;-)

James it all depends on mileage and time. Even at 1000 miles and 6 years I would change it. NSX engines are dear!!!

Reading from Honda’s Shop Manual supplement 2000 for NSX / Acura.
Replace timing belt and inspect water pump for signs of seal leakage.
European model normal conditions 72000 miles or 96 months whichever comes first.
Severe Conditions, over 43 deg C under –29 deg C then, 45000 miles or 96 months whichever comes first.
The Shop Manual supplement 2000, makes reference to 93,94,95,97 and 2000 model cars, I can not find if the 8 years now applies to all cars or just 2000 onwards cars,
can anyone add to this ? have I just made things more complicated.

Well have just had the news that the water pump is fine on my car for another cambelt life.
But the cambelt tensioner is on the way out.

Perhaps another item for us to look into from Dali to keep as a spare somewhere.

Many thanks, gentlemen, for your inputs. My car was registered at the end of January '98, which means that it was a '97 construction, which puts it into the 2000 supplement advice. The belt was changed in 2003, so what does that make it? As I was saying, it's VERY difficult to obtain definite advice on this, but I welcome any further ideas on the subject. J.C.
