Clutch Adjustment?? Slipping but no smell!

Hi all,

I am sure most of you remember bu old threads about clutches and gearboxes etc. WELL I am having another issue, and I know there is the possibility that I may need a new clutch AGAIN, but this time as it slips there is none of the familiar cooking clutch plate smell, so I am pondering if there is any other possibility of something else needing " adjusted" as such.

I have has a browse on prime and some talk about adjusting the pedal as it's really high, and some talking about fluid levels and master/slave probs.

can anyone shine a light on this?

One possibility is contamination. It's amazing what a little oil can do.

Crank end seal could be seeping but more likely is the seal leaking on the input shaft to the gearbox.

You know the job better than most, is there an inspection window underneath or a plate that can be removed to see if it's oily or wet inside the bellhousing?

I had an old Escort a few years back that had a noisy gearbox. It was only an ex-write off family freebie so I just opened up the filler and squirted in a bottle of oil to see if it improved things. No real difference but a year later the clutch started slipping under heavy load. Turned out the 100 and whatever thousand mile old clutch was fine but there was a misty smearing of oil everywhere. On such a mundane low power vehicle (sold for £100 a year later) I would have attempted to degrease it but unfortunately I had already bought a new 3 piece clutch kit on Ebay before taking the engine out That was £18.99 wasted :)

Wel if I remember correctly tere is a little panel that comes of teh bell housing, but I don;t think you can see/feel much by it.

Still worth a look, so i'll give it a go at the weekend.
