staggered wheels

I'm looking at getting some wheels and have been looking at the staggered option. 911's do it eh?

How would that effect handling, better? worse?

As I'm from the land of plenty, thinking big, like Texas. Though haven't discounted the ones for sale here.

The gunmetal could look good on on IOP... or will the car just not shine quite like Chrome?

All the pre 02 NSX's have staggered sizes, as do a lot of the US aftermarket people.
18/19 is pretty common.

As long as you keep the rolling radius ratio the same then you shouldn't have any issues with TCS etc. However going too big seems to have great effects on things like the S2000 so I can't see the NSX being any more forgiving.

Good looking wheel that IMO would suit the NIOP of your car. Probably more of a cruisin' rim than performance option. Would suggest keeping the OEM for track use with some sticky rubber.

ALL NSX have staggered wheels front to rear as standard, be it 15/16, or 16/17. the 17/17 of later models has the stagger in the choice of tyre sizes.

I looked at these wheels and loved them... but thought 18/19 would be too big. I'm sur eyou would have to get it lowered as well to have 18/19 unless you want to look like a monster truck!

Not sure I understand the question.

If you change the stagger (1 1/2 to 2" dependent on year) and also the offset, of course it will affect the handling balance, tramlining, etc.

Or are you confusing diametric differences with rim width differences?

I was just thinking about wheel width differences and figure Rim width increase will just add to it.
I would have thought a balance around the car of the same wheel width would make for a better "track" handling car. i.e. as a bit of an
exaggeration: drag cars have big ole fat rears and tiny fronts.
but then 911's have pretty fat ( 295 ) rears compared to maybe 245 fronts... and they are supposed to be track ready?

To sum it up. Are the staggered wheels ( leaving out super-deep-dishing effect ) for cornering performance & track grip, or for show?

Why are you comparing a beautiful-handling triumph of Japanese engineering to a machine designed to go in a straight line and an ill-conceived german deathtrap?

Certainly, you'd want to increase the width are the NSX's rear, if you were increasing its output massively. A tyre only has so much grip (mu) which can either be used for cornering, or power transmission. So under those circumstances, more width would quell power oversteer.

But what the Germans cannot understand is that handling is not all about grip; it's the balance of grip to power and how the car behaves at its limits (with docility & transparency in the NSX's case, just like a modified S2000) that makes it sublime.

I think they are too large & blingy, Honda picked 16/17 or 17/17 on later cars for a reason, overall balance to complement the cars power level & weigh distribution. I know most of us like slightly larger rims & tyres width etc, but maybe go 17/18 rather than 18/19? The NSX does'nt need such large rims/tyres unless you seriously increase the power substantially. :)

Theres an NIOP with OEM rims in the option gunmetal that I have on my NSX. Makes the car look more purposeful IMO. Then just fit some sticky rubber and go have some fun!

Rob, maybe a size too far but just to show you can go a far as 20" rears with 19" fronts :eek:
