Burst Coolent Pipe!!

Well while I was working on my car today I decided to leave it running for about an 45min as it hasnt been out in a month or so. Anyway it started first time no problem so I left it to run while I worked on my interior. About 45mins later I heard an almight bang and noticed steam rising from the rear. I immediately turned the car off open the rear hatch and had a look around. I then spied the pipe that burst which caused the problem. I'm just wondering has this happened to anyone before? the car has was running fine, no warning on the dash or anything, tempeature guage read spot on, just lucky I wasnt out driving it! Any reason as to why it would burst like that?
The pipe was also a pain in the ass to remove, had to remove all 3 pipes to get to the last one and the retaining clips are pretty difficult to work with but I got the damaged pipe off and going to order a new one, might just replace all three while I'm at it. Would like to go down the samco route at this point.

Just had a quick look on prime. Seems to be one of those problem on early cars that they rcommended to replace after a number of years. The hose the burst on my car is one in particular along with the other large one beside it the should be replaced.

Lucky guy! :eek: Good for your engine and your money wallet you've noticed early. What year is your car? Miles?

Reason: The coolant system builds up pressure and the weave is there for some reason. Thanks for the pic, it's of premium quality to show the others that the weave is getting weaker inside and that's why it couldn't stand the system pressure anymore.

Wow, a close escape. I think I'll get mine done next time it's in for service. What do you think these would cost to replace? The acura service note suggests 2 hours labour

It should not take any more than 40mins, hard part is getting the old pipes off and working with those hose clips honda use. The new pipes seem to be quite cheap too going by the Acura parts system, but I'll know the UK cost of the pipes tomorrow. According to HONDA US, updated pipes were made for the NSX so its quite possible the new pipes I get will be of a better quality. This maybe something all UK members should take a look into if you havent already dont change the pipes. I was very lucky as this happend at my home while the car was just sitting still and was able to catch it in seconds.

Not a pipe burst, but had to replace my coolant expansion tank under similar circumstances since had'nt driven car over Winter! Think I left my running for 45 mins to an hour? The copper/brass inlet or outlet connector that small rubber pipe goes into lost it's seal.

The coolant tanks on older cars are prone to failing anyway.The one on my first NSX split.

Ok I ordered the 2 new pipes from Honda, Prices were £20.00 each and part numbers are

19506-PR7-A01
19507-PR7-A01

Now what I do find strange is, there are actually three pipes there in a row, the two that I have ordered, which you can see removed in my pic, but if you look again you will see a third rubber pipe attached to the metal ones coming from the firewall. For some reason this pipe is not showing on Honda's parts system and it also not showing on the ACURAOEM parts system?? I would like to replace this one also seeing as the other 2 are being renewed. Anyone any suggestions?

I found the part number for the third pipe which is listed as "79728-SL0-A00 HOSE, WATER INLET (ENGINE)" £16.00 from Honda.
