New Door Proofing

I installed new door lining/sound proofing. The stuff I used is called Dynamat which is used in the audio instilation world for sound deadening/poofing etc. It was quite easy to put on, comes with a sepicial 3M adasive backing which sticks to the door panel nicely and you then work the backing into the door with either your hands, the back of a screwdriver or the smaller roller that you can buy with the kit, the backing is almost like a tar affect and with it pressed down nice and tightly it seals that much better. Its also water proof and I immediately noticed a big difference in road and wind noise reduction.

Nice neat job, what prompted you to think about changing to that stuff, were you concerned with road noise or did you have a problem behind the door card and changed it whilst you were that far in?

I was re-greasing the window rails and removing the bose speakers plus I wanted to replace the bulbs in the drivers windows switch and mirror adjust. So when I had the car stripped back that far I noticed the old door lining was looking a bit tired and I did notice a bit of road noise and wind noise before. I choose to go with this stuff after talking to the guys that are custom building my centre panel. They recommended it and I have to say I couldnt be happier with the the choice!

Great stuff and a great informative write up Sudesh. I chose to use Gorilla tape on my OEM as I did not want to increase the weight.

Thanks AR! Although the Dynamat is slightly heavier than the standard lining, I think I have counterbalanced that with the loss of the OEM speakers etc. The Gorilla Tape is excellent stuff, did you use it with door lining or on its own?

When the previous owner fitted the window fix its, he used some type of insulation tape that had given up so I replaced it on the OEM plastic with gorilla tape.

I must say that the gorilla tape will stick to anything!!!
