I'm about to submit my P&J to Cloverleaf Reading for its annual service, and ever the canny Scot, figured it would be worth supplying my own oil.

Looking at the previous service receipts, they all seem to list "Formula Synthetic Oil" at a unit price of £4.20 or so, total about £42...

Surely it doesn't take 10L of oil per service? I was thinking of ordering http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1317-oil-and-filter-service-pack-honsp24484.aspx which lists 6L of Silkolene XTR 10w-40 and a Purolator Oil Filter Ref L24484. The fluids & filters page on Prime (http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Maintenance/fluidfilter.htm) says only to use Honda OEM filter... I presume I'd be OK with the Opie-supplied one?

Any thoughts gratefully received :)

Personally for the saving on the filter I'd use the OEM one.

As for Oil, I supplied 6L and got some back (well about half a litre)

I'd agree that an OEM filter is a far safer bet....if you really want to use a particular type of oil (I'd prefer to use Silkolene Pro S 5w40) then you will be paying about the same price as the oil the garage uses anyway (remember to order it now and get club disccount from Opie)!

If you want to keep your service record bang up to date then I guess you need to take it to the garage, but doing yourself will be the easiest way to save some spondoolies!

As per the handbook, the oil capacity including the filter is exactly 5L which makes it very easy as most oil comes in 5L containers.

I'm using Mobil 0W-40 at the moment having bought a stock of it last year.
