Hi,

does anyone know how much pressure to have put into the gas struts that hold up the rear boot?
A company called Barnes Group is advertising struts on their web site for £14.60 each in the correct size to fit but you have to choose how much you want them pumped up, 100 - 650 N available.
They also do the type that come pumped up to 400 N that you then release pressure to suit the application, but I don't know if 400 N is enough to support the boot lid.

Cheeer,

Andy

If you support the lid with a stick, and have some scales underneath, you can weigh how heavy it is.

Then measure out from the hinges to the edge where the stick was. Also measure from the hinges to the where the gas struts attach.

With all that, the company should be able to tell you what pressure is needed.

Naturally take the current struts off first.

Or if you can weigh the lid directly at the strut mounting location.

Ah, minor point, but I failed to mention that I have come to the UK on holiday for a 3 weeks and am now 8,000 miles from the car.

Cheers,

Andy
