My ABS and TCS lights have come on. Honda has diagnosed a failed offside front speed sensor and quoted £280 to fix it. £200 for the part and £80 to fit. Is it worth sourcing the part myself for a saving? I'll check the brake lights per previous posts on the ABS / TCS.

Also, I fitted a new battery a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't Honda but it was the correct type as specified in the supplier's product catalogue - £48. Two sizes were available so I went for the bigger one. When my mother dropped the car off at Honda they changed the battery to an OEM battery (£75), saying the other one was "too big" for the bracket.

The Honda dealer insists that the battery that I had fitted wasn't suitable for the car, despite the bracket being big enough for the larger size. I think this is a joke and have said that if any other NSX specialist says I can fit a bigger battery, then they've got to take their battery back.

Any thoughts?

What you do with your car is up to you. If you want to fit a different battery, who are the dealer to say otherwise? Unless there was a reason why your big battery was not safe. My dealer always rings me and tells me if something needs doing. Sometimes I say yes, sometimes I say just supply the parts and I'll fit it myself, and others I say no thanks.

I guess if your dealer saw my battery they'll say its too small, as it is rather tiny.

Speeds sensors are £200 for my old aerodeck as well. I needed two, the car is only worth £500! I wouldn't personally worry about trying to get a cheaper one for the NSX.

i know what i would tell them
they have no right to take a part off your car and replace it with one of their own.at the very least they should have done as Kevin's dealers do and phoned you first.
I would tell them to put your battery back on and get a full refund for the battery they fitted(assuming you have already paid)or you will threaten them with court action.
What they did was bang out of order.

Thanks. I didn't ask the dealer to get in touch with me before they did any work - not worth explaining why. Anyway, it's the age-old thing that you always agree the work and price beforehand.

Can you believe that the dealer tried to convince me that in a crash the bigger battery could present a risk to safety?

This dealer has got to be kidding you - tell them to put your original battery in - they have absolutely no right to make those sort of decisions without your agreement :x
