Engine + Gearbox flush

Well I've done about 350miles since I last changed the oil in the engine and gearbox! So as I previously mentioned I wanted to do a FLUSH type drain on the engine and gearbox, just to see how clean the new oil is now. So the car is up on the stands ready for a drain. I'm replacing everything with new items also, ie new oil for the gearbox and engine obviously and drain and filler plug washers and oil filter.

i change mine every 4 months about 4k miles or so
and flush it as well
but not done the gear box yet

So done oil chages again yesterday. The result was, the gearbox oil was pretty much nice a clean although. The engine oil looked pretty black even though it was only changed and only 350miles of driving.

This is the oil drained:

On the right in the dark blue container is the gearbox oil, the centre is the engine oil and left is just a sample of new oil.

On another note, changing the gearbox oil has made a huge difference to the shifting into gear. Its much smoother now than it was before and the notchy gear change has disappeared.

Thanks for pics Sudesh! So you basically did an engine/gearbox flush with correct oils, drive 350 miles, then replaced with same oils!? Is that needed? Why change it after only 350 miles when you could leave it in? Is the operation of the gearbox improve dramatically? I know the gearbox oil is in the darkest tray & looks dark, but when shown on your finger, it looks relatively clean to me! :)

Hi, I dont think its needed but I just wanted to see what/if any difference there would be in the new oil after a fresh change, plus I wanted to do a flush type drain and after many reads it wasnt really recommended to use an engine flush chemical but rather to go with a cheaper oil, do a few hundered miles then drain and refill with the good stuff! It was just purely for my own investigation lol!!
But I was quite amazed to see the oil was that black/brown after only a 350miles?

The gearbox oil is nice and clean because it was also change 350 miles ago too!, so it was new oil anyway. I drained that again just to see what/if any difference there would be there also. But it came out perfect. However the first time I change the gearox oil it was black! lol

There is a huge difference, in my opinion, in the improvement of the gear changes and definately worth doing. It was also pretty straight forward replacing the gearbox oil, hardest part was refilling, but I purchased a Sealey Oil Syringe which done the trick nicely!

Is it possable that the engine oil has turned "black" in a very short time because it was "cheap stuff" ???
I'm sure the oilman could answer this.
