I am currently experiencing a grinding from the diff when under load at low speeds. The grinding only happens when turning, even when freewheeling. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem ? I have taken the car to a local gearbox specialist garage who seem to think it may be a bearing or worst, a problem with the planetry gears.I have rang local Honda dealer who are quoting £1100 for the planetry gears.I wonder if anyone can help before i commit myself to open heart surgery to my wallet! The gearbox is a 5 speed manual. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

When was the fluid changed last?
Try changing your fluid, you might be very surprised.

And ensure you use OEM Honda fluid ... definately a good first and relatively cheap check

What age/mileage and when you get sorted, maybe an intro

How long have you had the car, and has this noise changed or got worse over the years?

Reason I ask is that the NSX diff is particularly noisy. It certainly makes a noise that other Hondas don't. So if you are new to the car, then maybe it's normal, in which case I should ask here to see another member's car and compare.

Plus one, you can really hear the locking/unlocking on any NSX at low speeds.

I live in Leicester, i have had the car for 5 years. the grinding noise has only statred in the last few weeks. its strange as the noise is not appaerent in a straight line or at normal driving. the fluid was changed 2 years ago. However the noise is a definate grinding noise.with my very limited knowledge it sounds like a worn bearing. i am concerned that the garage i have gone to are shooting in the dark..if anyone has any parts that may lighten the cost this would be much appreciated.i have asked Dali for any suggestions/help.

There is a group buy (GB) building for Mark at Dali at present so if you need parts, order with Mark, advise they are for the UK GB and save on shipping and tax costs with the larger order

Defo, start with the fluid still, the cheapest option too. If you change the fluid yourself check it to see if there are any signs of a bearing breaking down. Make sure you put the correct back stuff in (MTF3/4).

Even though your fluid was changed 2 years ago, do you know whether the correct stuff was used?
