Hi everyone,
Just thought i'd say hello to you all from sunny South Wales :). I've been lurking on here for a while now as i've fancied an NSX for some time. I think i've found a good buy through the trade so i'm looking to buy it in the next few days. I up to speed on most Japanese imports but i'll admit that i don't know much about the NSX, are there any major things to watch out for apart from the usual bodywork checks /engine noises etc? Any help would be gratefully received!
Dave.

What age / model are you looking at. We're a freindly bunch here, if you want to know if someone has any info about a specific car, then feel free to post details and invite responses by pm
Good luck
Regards, Paul

No! I spoke to the chap selling it and although he sounded ok when i asked him had he had it painted he told me "it came in from Japan like that mate".........then i realised i'd seen him somewhere before. I did put in a low bid on the car but someone bid a little more.
I am in the motor trade myself and have been offered a black 1991 auto for £10500, it looks ok in the pics but although i've had 100's of GTR's, Evo's, MR2's and RX7's i've never even driven an NSX yet!
I saw Amos car down at Hyeline the other week when i was buying some spark plugs off Steve and i fell in love! I know Amos car is a seriously special example i thought i'd buy one to use myself as a nice change from the norm.
Back to the car.......she was up on ebay around 3 months ago and advertised as a Trade Clearance car. She's a '91 black auto but has had around 9 owners. It needed a new set of wheels as the rear drivers side had a crack or had a crack repair done at some time but fair play to the seller he was very open and honest about this. The paintwork and body lines looked pretty straight but obviously i'd be giving it a good once over. There is very little in the way of service history which seems a shame as she's been in the UK for several years, it makes me think has she been clocked or just neglected?
Anyway, i'll have a night in and have a read up on the do's & dont's but if anyone has a tidy example for sale who is reading this then you are welcome to PM me with the details, i don't mind if it's private or trade .
Dave.

Firstly hi Dave and welcome to the forum.
For that sort of money I would say you can't go far wrong. Being in the trade you well know sometimes just because a car has a lot of history it doesn't make it a good one, vice versa if it hasn't got a lot of history it doesn't make it a bad one.
Take the car at face value, I am sure you know what you are looking at body wise, just be prepared if you buy it to spend a couple thousand pounds to do the normal unkown things like cambelt, tensioner, waterpump etc.
Go and see the car in the flesh you might be pleasantly suprised, then again you might not!
Regards Pete.

i have to dissagree on this when it comes to the NSX.Even at £10.5K it's still a lot of money to shell out on a car,ESPECIALLY on a supercar when the cost of repairs can easily escalate into the thousands.
At 10.5K it is a cheap car if everything works as it should, but if it's been neglected and he ends up shelling out 4-5K on repairs then it's not such a good deal.
Only the other day it was mentioned in one of the other threads that an auto that had not had proper maintenance on the 'box ended up costing the owner £10K to fix
If the OP could stretch his budget by another 5K he could have some nice known examples.

Jeez man, when will he learn?! I saw it when he had it and it was Sebring Silver and black....and a few panels in primer!
There is a Green, auto, targa in Autotrader that's been there quite a while, the trader might be willing to do a deal if it's any interest to you. Looks very clean, low miles, history etc. If you needed someone to give it a once over for you, I'm only a few miles away....

Look at it another way, Any car can have full main dealer service history but this factor alone does not mean it's a good car, for example if it's been wrapped around the Armco a few times it could be possibly bent like a bannana.
As I said I would personally take any car at "face value" first then consider if it has service history and what that tells you about it.
Unknown mechanical break downs are just that "Unknown" and can happen on any car irrespective of its service history. I do agree however that they can indeed run into thousands of pounds to repair on the Nsx !

I have just re-read my post and i guess i should have worded it different.
What i should have said is,yes you can buy a good car without SH,but it isn't recommended with a car such as the NSX,where parts/maintenance can by extremely expensive.

Many thanks to all for the advice, i've been offered 2 cars through this site so i'll give both guys a call first as it looks like i may be better off paying now rather than later.

I think id go with Ivor on this, despite the NSX (or any honda) being superier to all over supercars, the engine is pretty individual and really does benefit from correct and regular maintenance and servicing by a qualified dealer or specialist....
Suspension componants are individual to these cars alone I believe and any distortion or wear on sub frame mounts etc can cause seemingly minor damage that can cost 1000's to repair.
I think you get what you pay for in an NSX and if we start thinking you can pick up a cheap 10-15k model and its going to be the same as a 20-30k model then the values and reputation will drop like a stone.....
Having said all that, welcome to the NSX world, get a good car and you will have a permanant grin on your face!
