The other day a friend of mine said my antenna looked like it came off a mk3 Cortina.Got me thinking about carrying out the S2000 conversion.
Anybody tried it ?

It's a bit of a personal preference thing, but I think it looks good. Not as good as havng no aerial at all, I suppose, but IMHO better than either the stock aerial up or stock aerial retracted, even.

You could pull the power from the stock aerial so that it never extends - you might find you actually pick up a reasonable signal and don't need to do anything more. See http://nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17443

Has anyone tried colour coding the S2000 aeriel?
Would it be possible?
How much do Honda knock them out for?

Given that it's rubber & bendy, I think it would be pretty hard to get it properly colour matched and would look a bit weird compared to how it does in black, IMO.

The Shark II antenna I put on is almost identical to the S2000 one (may be raked back a little more) but is an easier fit (no cutting required) and provides a better signal (according to LoCustom anyway...).

I have a hidden antenna and in my opinion its the best option. The standard NSX aerial does look bad on such a nice car, plus its costly to replace if/when the old one breaks.

Also if you look at any supercar today or even some in the past, the aeial is usually built into the car somewhere.
The NSX also has 2 aerials, the electric one obviously and another hidden one the in the rear hatch glass.

Something that you could do if you didnt want to delete the electric one is, disconnect the electric one so it doesnt rise up, and see what the signal is like with just the hatch aerial, (it may not be great) if its not that great then you could go to an auto store and purchase a stand alone aerial, (similar to the s20000) and plug it into the electric aerial socket and keep it hidden in the boot behind the carpet. Signal should be ok but to get the best the aerial always needs to be on the outside.

My hidden aerial is hidden up behind the rear bumper.

Are you sure? You cant actually see anything, the wire is pretty much hidden and travel into the plastic cover at the top of the hatch on the inside.

Its that time of year to get my pride and joy ready for the great weather (haha). I am sure you old timers have read these threads many times and they keep coming up each year, but as a new owner I am addressing these issues for the first time.

Decided to try the "pull the power from the stock unit" solution....very easy but I now have no radio reception so it will have to be the LoCustom route. They offer two options a "Shark II" or a "mini shark" which is currently being upgraded (pity as thats the one I want!)

So when my mini shark arrives, is it a straightforward job to remove the stock unit, wiring etc?

PS The Parrot MK9200i works a treat. Phone kit is good and the voice recognition is very clever. There is a very slight background hiss (at low volume) that I cannot get rid of. If it begins to annoy me the only solution will be a DD unit!

The first challenge would be the removal of silver cap securing the OEM ANT on the wing.
You should be using the proper radio aerial removal socket but if not, prepare the wing with lots and lots of protection material.
I normally place food wrapping film around the aerial base and then place the thick plastic board with the round cut out of aerial base.


The second challenge would be fitting the locking nut once you have started installing the new antenna.
Very limited space but there are several ways of doing this so just be imaginative.
Do not over torque it or you will deform the wing around the antenna base or even crack the paint. Finger tight is enough.


Connect the red wire from the aerial AMP to the PNK/WHT wire at the OEM ANT connector.
I didn't find much difference with/without the AMP red wire connected as my area seemed to be covered with strong FM signal.
AM coverage was so so but that's what you expect from this type of spiral short aerial.
