At least 2 NSX were due at the event today to try and top the NSX timed record of 162mph over the 1.6mile distance.
By the lack of post(s), I'm guessing there's nothing to shout about despite lots of power mods .........
I'd also like to be sure that all came away safely too!

All came away fine which is more than can be said about the odd audi or 2.
With regards to beating the previous best of 162 lets just say........
I was not aware of this, who was going?
I am hoping that in a few months I might be able to attend one of this.

Was a very warn day, and no tail wind like last time, so probably best to compare to others marques (which tended to be a fair way down). We beat
Cayman
M3 CSL
E39 M5
Monaro
E46 M3
so the mods must've made a big difference. My car was affected by the heat more than the anonymous flyer, so am keen to fit my elusive engine cover. I reckon with this, hi-flo cats, autumn weather and a following wind, 166 is on the cards, but as it stands, 164 is the number to beat.

Why no results for NSX 2000 or Trackdemon?
164 ... its going the right way
Guess I'll have to make the next one and raise the bar ;)

Trackdemon was in his Z4, the anonymous flyer in the post above was our very own NSX2000. We both did 1 164 but he got a lot more 163s than me.

Well your results do support one thing ...
It costs a LOT of ££ to improve on the original. All of Honda R&D to improve the aerodynamics, plus your ££ in exhaust and airbox and we get 2 mph.

regards,
We need to compare like with like. I was getting beaten by the M3s and Caymans last time by around 2 mph. And to get the 162mph I was flat shifting - I wasn't doing that yesterday. Comparing like with like I reckon it was around 4 mph improvement, which I reckon equates to around 13bhp at the wheels.
I had a chat with the organiser and mentioned that I will try to get a few more NSXCB people along next time and he was fine with that - I reckon it will be September time.

This was a good fun day but as with all good fun things the fun police have moaned about the noise so one or two cars could only have one or two runs due to being to loud plus on the way back to the start you were not allowed to "hang the tail out" unlike previous meets.
To compare the results Noel's car and mine are pretty much identical, including the same tyres (Goodyear eagle F1's). So to go faster with out speending big £££££ I guess we need to look at cats or rather get rid of them and may be tyres???
The other thing is we had to change into 6th so when I passed the timing beam the car was only doing just over 6.5k rpm.
Paul.

Talking of hanging the tail out,

this corner could be taken in 3rd at around 80 with just a hint of opposite lock - the traction control cutting in occasionally to tame the slide - fantastic. We have a DVD on order - hopefully some of the cornering shots will be on this.
When I was sulking earlier in the day (before I discovered that my car needs to nudge the limiter in each gear to get the good speeds), I was pondering a GT-R to humiliate NSX2000 at future meets (his gloating was insufferable!!), but looking at warranty constraints it would appear that you have to take your car to have oil changed if it gets above a certain temperature - I think this would've happened yesterday. We also talked to someone about a Ferrari (430?) that required a new clutch after less than 10 launches with launch control.
maybe we take our reliability for granted??

Thats a real shock that the R8 only managed 162!? Especially with over 400 bhp & aero shape.

I was talking to a mate last week who's looking for a "potential 4-seat family every-day car that can go trackday and not waste itself". The GT-R came up right until he said the warranty excluded use on track and the fact that they could tell you'd used it on track meant, if you did and anything went wrong, you'd be stuck.
Someone on a forum hit a possible resolution: take it to a dealer immediately before tracking, and get them to check everything out. Take it back immediately after.... and if everything is OK, then warranty is still good - anything that broke in the meantime, it's your lookout.
Given that the background sales pitch for the GT-R is "it goes round the Nurburgring faster than a 911 Turbo !! woo hoo!!", that seems to be taking the pi$$ somewhat.

In the real world, this will be a royal PITA. Assuming you were going to VMax last Sunday. You would have to take the car to the nearest specialist GTR dealer (1 hour away in my case), wait until they had done the work then come home. You would have to repeat after the trackday (and change oil if it became too hot). Expensive in times of time and cost. Nissan should've charged more for the car and done it properly.

Hmmm, no doubt a good result but I have to ask why? Other than the obvious going really fast in a straight line.
Sports cars are about the noise and feel they give as much as the performance and speed they provide.
I can just imagine the intense excitement provided by the induction howl and exhaust scream as that Beemers diesel six banger nudged the 4,800rpm redline... NOT :(
I for one would trade a few mph for the soundtrack of either the old E46 M3's 8K revs capable 6 pot or the new E90's snarly 8.5K capable V8 :)
Cheers

I thought the E46 M3 sounded distinctly average compared to the NSX when I went in it one the last VMax, althought you couldn't argue with the straightline speed. The SMG shifts at maximum attack made me wince - the diff must've suffered judging by the bang on upshifts in the lower gears.

I'm kind of on Nissan's side on this but also think it will impact the GTR's reputation for reliability and durability regardless of whether any inherant weakness exist.
I don't think they have actually underengineed the car or scrimped anywhere to get it to the price they charge but I do suspect that the price does not give them much room to pay out on lots of big warranty claims. These might result from failures when driven legitimately at track days, probably fair enough, or from complete idiot drivers (journalists etc) ragging the cars unnecessarily ie donuts, spin turns etc.
Porsche, Ferrari, Aston, Lambo etc price their cars so that they make far more profit per vehicle and therefore have plenty in the warranty bank to fix them.
You'd probably still spend less on repairing a GTR a couple of times than you'd lose in deprieciation over 3 years on a 997 Turbo, F599, F430 or DBS. Assuming Porsche, Ferrari, Aston honour their warranty when you pitch up with grass and gravel in every air duct and a melted V12 ;)

The E46 M3 is a bit like the NSX in that respect Noel, the occupants get a better soundtrack than people watching/listening from the outside. It's all about the induction howl :)
Did the CSL you rode in have a aftermarket exhaust? Again like the NSX a louder exhaust actually takes away, drowns out, the fantastic induction snort.
I'm currently running my standard exhaust and, on the couple of occassions I've taken the car out for a trash, have loved the pure induction dominated NSX engine note :)

Know what you mean about the shifts, went round Bedford as a passenger in an E46 M3, he managed to get the level 7 (?) SMG setting engaged which was severe....like someone was using a sledgehammer on the rear axle. Thought the engine sounded good though.

It was a standard M3 that I went in (not CSL) - think the exhaust was standard - thought the sound was very muted compared to ours.
I can't believe you have gone backwards in terms of power, but at least it gives you an excuse to come to TDI again and see if you have the most powerful standard car!!

I swapped the exhaust back for a potential track day but never attended. I'm taking over the race cat purchase from Simon(prelude) and will probably refit the Dali when I get the new cats.
It is nice to get the original NSX in-cabin sound back but I have noticed the power loss. I feel it more in the mid range than at the top.

Have you added and intake scoop, or at least remove the resonator and butterfly from the OEM scoop? It makes a hell of a difference. If you don't want to mess up your OEM set up I have my OEM scoop you can have FOC.

Mark's definitely a Ferrari fan, he must have been loving that ride :)
Am I the only person that thinks the 430 sounds a bit, well flat? They're certainly loud but more raspy, some would say "farty", than the cylinder count would suggest. I know the flat plane crank design is why they sound different but you'd have thought Ferrari with all their resources would be able to do better.
Apparently the engine sounds better from inside the car, a trait it shares with the NSX of course.

Nice! I recall the drag is 0.32 for the Type-R vs 0.3 for 02+. I reckon this requires an extra 12bhp (at wheels) at 164mph. Looks as though that car didn't have much more power than standard (he had a long period at WOT - probably similar to VMax)
I'm aiming for 165 when we get the cats and I fit my engine cover (makes a difference with hear soak I reckon), and then I will call it quits.
