Yokohama are just about to launch their new high performance tyre the Yokoham Advan Neova AD08. Apparently it is made of some very clever compounds
http://www.yrc-pressroom.jp/english/html/200811415tr001.html

I did a search online and I think I have found that all NSX OEM sizes are available in Japan.
(If Google Translate is to be trusted!)

ie
205/50/15, 225/50/16
215/45/16, 245/40/17
215/40/17, 255/40/17

I have emailed Yokohama GB to find out if this is the case, and let them know that the UK NSX community awaits the answer with baited breath. Fingers crossed!

from the article, could be an impressive tyre, with the stiffer side walls.

Keep us updated from Yoko GB.

Hopefully a decent new Yoko tyre for our cars?

The old OEM Yokos were great in the dry, but dreadful in the wet and wear rate the highest of the original 3 OEM tyres (up to 02+).

I wonder when they are being release?

UK Yokohama pages say the launch is '2nd quarter of 2009'.

Hi Gavin

Many thanks for your email regarding Neova AD08's.

The sizes will be available in the UK, although at this present time there is no launch date. However I would anticipate this to be around the Autumn, just in time for the rain!

I'll keep you up to speed with any developments and maybe we can stir up some interest through UK sites/owners clubs closer to the time.

Best regards
Nick

Well it's great that we're going to get them, just a shame we're not getting them till the autumn...

I had AD07s on my DC5.

BEST TYRE ever had period. Unreal, wet dry the lot. Track road. I was in love with them, i got them on the wear markers off an imported DC5. Thye had about 2-3mm on them.

I put them on and went for a blast on my local roads... First corner i attacked hard i was full on sideways 90 degrees thinking wtf. Caught it and then began to think why...

The front end had so much more grip than the last tyres (kumho) they turned in so fast the back threw out.. i had to adjust my turn in from then on.

But once i got used to it my god i could carry speed, even in the wet they bit in to the tarmac more then kumhos with lots of tread. I was blown away. I was taking my local roundabout over the motorway at 70 + instead of 60+ i had become a loon :/ ! And even when i flicked it sideways onto the flyover they were happy...

AND--- i took them to the ring, did 24 laps and were still legal..WTF! These were so good tyres they just soaked the ring up. These and My DC5 equaled fast ring laps...8.30 8.40 stuff.

So if the AD08s are better than my god i wish i had a DC5 to put them on and the ring round the corner.

:D :D

The standard 3.2 NSX has a Nurburgring lap record of 8.38 - you must have been giving it some welly in your Integra. :D

The NSX time of 8:38 is a full lap, most Nurburgring lap times are quoted as Bridge to Gantry, I think you need to add on 15 to 30 seconds at least for a comparison.

Gavin,

From a conversation I was having today these have been available in Japan as 07's and now 08's and are very popular choice in the NSX community.

If you cant wait till the Autumn, could you not go for the 07's which may be priced well as end of line?

I bought a set of Bridgestone RE050 for the rears on Fri. I'll be following reviews/peoples thoughts on these as I may well try some when both front and rear are due next time around.

They are standard RE050 with the MZ compound.
Very stiff sidewalls, nearly as bad as the RE010 HO which had a tyre fitter almost in tears once...........

BS REO10 were the best tyres I had on the NSX, shame they are no longer available!! :( When I had the rears changed, it took three fitters to get them off & in the process, damaged the rim!! I had to complain the area manager to get then put right. Those infamous stiff side walls were great on the road, but a pain to get off!

Had a chat with Yoko chap at PH stand today about the Advan Neova AD08 and they do have a supply shortage , but they definitely have most of our sizes and he insists they have a stiff sidewall. The thing is whether it is OK to drive on W rated tyres (for us 02+ flyers) writhout invalidating insurance. Lots of conflicting info on web

Try contacting Rarerims.co.uk -they are apparently UK stockists. not sure whether to go for the AD08 or some T1R's myself. As the car is likely to only be used on weekends, may go for the cheaper option.....

I'm toying with replacing my fronts with AD08s, and when my rears next wear, then switch to them all round. Currently shod with Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s - I don't much like mixing front/rear, but has anyone got a view on moving to AD08s on the front now, and on the rear in maybe 6 months?

Are you OK with the fact that they are only rated to 168mph? I would be wary of only putting them only on the fronts (depending on driving style), as I am led to believe that their grip levels are that much higher (halfway between something like Conti 3s and 888s - I use both on the R26.R and there is a fair difference).

You don't do cheapskate 1/2 tyre replacements on a supercar. They didn't write it in the book for the fun of it.

Or a Hyundai Accent, really.

The AD08 has MASSIVE grip - if you really wanna reverse through a hedge, buy an S2000.

When I get my cats done, I will try and track these down. Then see if EVO fancy putting it round track to avenge the Evora defeat earlier in the year.

They are V rated , 149 mph. I think most of us only have a quick blat up to 160ish for short bursts of enthusiasm. So should be OK.

Yeah, but not sure if the extra outlay will be worth it for me at the moment - this and the fact that some numpty tyre fitter made a mess of the last set of alloys before I got the car while removing and fitting RE050A's (another tyre with stiff sidewalls). This is part of the reason why I am changing the wheels -will post some pics in another thread.

Will probably go with the AD08's though as I prefer having optimum choices and the reports on these tyres is very favourable.......

Had to put Toyos on because of the supply problem with Yokomama, a shame as I was looking forward to seeing what they were like.
The steering doesn't feel as responsive with these new ones, maybe the really tall tread blocks, I'll have to wear them down to a more manageable height. :

I was out yesterday - ended up doing some really muddy, slippery roads.

One little squirm when I put the power on early out of a bend (in order to blast past a TT and a MINI) until the LSD gripped.

It's really hard to believe these are track day tyres; the car was amazingly composed on them. Even in February.

How many mile shave you put on them now Nick? And did they take long to start working; by example the F1's could take upto 600 miles before really starting to work well.

Hardly any miles; I've not had a great deal of chance to use it recently.

I think they scrubbed in on the first run; it was almost as soon as the release compound was worn off. They take a mile or so to warm up a bit, as do most sticky tyres.

I know the RE-050s take a while to stop feeling floaty (S-02s were even worse!) but I didn't notice it (much) with the F1 Asymmetrics. I's say in character, the Advans are closest to the S-02s, but much grippier & less treacherous when cold. Although it's a bit dodgy comparing it across two different Hondas, albeit with similar geometry.

Hmmm...want some good summer tyres for the ITR and these seem a good option...but I'm loath to give the 'teg too much grip as currently it's got a nicely adjustable tail and you can feel the car 'get up on its toes' without doing silly speeds.

Nick Graves
05-02-2011, 02:04 PM
I'd try the Dunlop Fast Responses then - they do what they say on the tin and suit the 15" wheels.

The AD08s probably do have too much dry-road grip, TBH. But that somehow suits the NSX.

I can believe that...the car feels like it should be driven in a smooth and planted way, whereas the 'teg feels rather more...hooligan-ish!

Thanks for the recommendation - didn't enjoy the Hankook V12 Evo's last year, seriously considering dumping them even with 6mm of tread left.

IKWYM! Hard not to drive the VTi like you stole it & it's only a sort of UK korma-strength 'Teg. As you well know...

The FRs in about the right size do well in the German tyre tests still; particularly handling & wet roads, which is nice.

Just wanted to share my experience...

I put a new set of 17/17 AD08s on a year ago. Have done <1K on them since then. Went out for a drive yesterday (10 degrees C or so, in changeable dry to damp conditions) and was amazed at their grip. Hitting a wet patch in mid-corner proved no issue whatsoever (at the relatively low cornering speeds I'm capable of... safely). I'd say these are SO much better than the (unworn) Toyo Proxes I replaced.

FYI, I paid £700 for the set, fitted, via Blackcircles. Along with the wheel alignment that Kaz organised last year, I'd say the best investment I've made on my car to date. It feels totally planted (at my speeds) and a real joy to drive. (Will be even better once my slipping CL is sorted in the next few weeks!)

Mani.
