Our P & J came 48th in standard trim & the Type R was 29th. :proud::thumbsup: Interesting to read about all the other cars attributes, but why waste over 3rd of the article space talking about driving position when over 6 foot tall on the standard car! I know height is vital, but to mention this is a waste of space IMOP! I'm sure some of the other cars have the same problem! Rant over

That rag isn't worth wiping your arse with IMO. And the top 2 cars show wilful bias.

Already seen this, S2000 guys bitching over how the S2000 didn't make it in.
What were the top 10s, porkers, bmw and ferraris?

Anything the owner bloke, can't remember his name, has owned basically. Nice to hear the NSX figured anyway.

Looks like a pretty fair list to me, no duffers there :) To be pedantic the GT3 is a Mk1, the Elan an original 1960's version and the MX5 also the original Mk1 right?
I'll pick up a copy of the mag tomorrow.
Cheers

Trouble is you could have substituted a good third of the top-100 into the top-10 and no-one would have batted an eyelid - virtually ALL 100 were full-fat driver's cars.
I agree that it shows deliberate bias - whether to provoke debate or just to kiss Harry M's arse I don't know, but the magazine has definitely gone downhill...
Re: S2000 - I can see why it didn't make it, but IMHO all the journo's missed a trick - it only takes a couple of tweaks to turn it into a truly entertaining car...

Similar thing with the NSX, add 100 BHP, barkes and suspenpension and you got a car that can hang with everything this side of £100K and some that cost more.

It's caused quite a debate over on the evo forum so Harry Metcalf posted his personal list (each contributor submited their personal top 20) here... http://community.evo.co.uk/forums/thread.cfm?threadID=43961
In no particular order they are/were...
BMW M3 CS
Caterham
Aston Vantage V12 (latest version)
Ariel Atom
340R/Elise Mk. 1
Ferrari 275 quad cam or 250 SWB
Ferrari 550
Ferrari F40
911 GT3 Mk. 1
Audi R8 V8
Ford RS2000/Mexico
Honda Integra
Jaguar D type
Ghibli Cup
MX-5
Mini Cooper S, original
Skyline R33
Clio 200 Cup
Subaru P1
TVR Griffith 4.0litre, so long as it was a sorted one
Deliberate bias??? Surely you'd expect him to own some of his favourite cars? I know I would (indeed I do) and given his financial resources I'd own a lot more of my personal favourites. In fact 20, cars, sounds about right :)
Maybe us nsxcb'ers should all submit our own top 20 and compile our own results in the same way? Does anyone good with a spreadsheet have the time? Bias or not I bet the NSX would feature pretty heavily ;)
I agree the mag's not as good as it used to be (post Meaden and Bovington) but IMHO still about best out there.
Cheers

How about a Top 10 owned cars....
1. Lotus Elise 135 - just drive one and you'll know why!
2. Integra Type R DC2 - best FWD car - period.
3. NSX - continues to impress after 3 years!
4. CRX 1.5 - chuckable with enough power to have fun
5. Alfa 156 - touch of (tempremental) Italian flair
6. Mini Cooper (original) - loved it but cant believe how small and vulnerable they look on todays roads
7. MX5 - no mods, straight from the factory, pure genius
8. S2k - drivetrain excellence but flawed handling that could be sorted. An under-rated car by many journo's. Best heater on the market.
9. M635 - my first taste of large BHP and still holds good memories
10. Xantia - mile eating comfort like no other brand
And a Top 5 love to drive ...
1. Zonda - any one will do, but the CF cabriolet would be the ultimate (yes I am a CF wh**e)
2. Maclaren F1 - just doesn't get any better
3. AMV8 - manual please - love the sound, looks
4. CLK Black Series - possibly the ultimate wolf in sheeps clothing
5. GT3 RS with carbon brakes
Any takers for the spreadsheet .....?
regards, Paul

How about a Top 10 owned cars....
I don't think I've owned 10 decent cars :) Here's a stab anyway...
1. NSX - Fabulous. It's a keeper.
2. 993 Carrera - Last of the aircooled "proper" 911's.
3. Impreza Turbo (Series 1 1/2 with Prodrive engine kit) - Great over back roads, brakes not up to the job.
4. Puma 1.7 - Great little car. Sweet engine but a lttle underpowered.
5. S2000 (Series 2) - Mental engine, fab gearbox, tight LSD... snappy!
6. Peugeot 309GTi - A grown up 205GTi. Still made from tin foil and paper tho'.
7. Scirocco GLI (Mk1) - Better than a Golf but rusted terribly.
Now it's into the company car fodder...
8. Laguna 2.0RTI - Pretty good really. Bit too heavy for its 140hp Twin Cam motor.
9. Xantia 1.9TDi - My only ever diesel and I hated the engine but liked the rest of the car.
10. Rover 214SLi - A Honda in drag and the first car to use the K series engine. Not great!
And a Top 5 love to drive ...
1. Maclaren F1 - The ultimate
2. Carrera GT - Still the only nice sounding V10
3. Caterham Blackbird - 170bhp, 12k revs, sequential 'box, 440kgs
4. Latest GT3 - Love those wheel "nuts"
5. Ferrari 250GT SWB
Cheers
Mark
