ahhh.. just finished work.. off in the a.m. for a couple days at Celtic Manor... Roman Road tomorrow afternoon followed by poker night and then the 2010 course on Friday.

what's that roaring twenties song? "happy days are here again, for the smile of it, for the style of it..."
sort of feel guilty that I'm celebrating the end of the recession prematurely... oh well ;)

Celtic Manor ehh, how posh are you ;)

I'm doing the same thing next weekend. 3 days of golf'age also in Wales but our "tour" is costing £170 all in for 3 rounds, 2 nights B&B & Dinner in the hotel (Copthorne nr Cardiff). It's probably a sh*t hole but the craic is more important that the digs or indeed the golf :)

My golf skills, such as they are, would be wasted at the Celtic Manor but I'm jealous all the same. Have fun and play well :)

Cheers

Mark

Back now and have been paying the price by working most of the weekend ;(

review...
Stayed 1 night and golf'd 2. Montgomery and 2010. Hotel and restuarants were very good, but not much of any night life up there. I'm sure it would be awesome to be there in one years time, when it's jam packed though.

2010 course.. hmmm.. big show piece and concierges go out of their way to keep up the 5star billing.... complete with a van that escorts you in convoy down to the practice driving range near the 1st tee. Course was in top notch condition but tbo didn't seem challenging enough for a Ryder cup.. I predict some low scores unless they grow the rough considerably.

It's a bit like the K Club.. Immaculate condition, super posh, but a year-on there's not 1 hole that's stuck in my mind.
2010.. Immaculate condition, but only 2 or 3 holes that stuck our in my mind as being special / bordering on exceptional ;) maybe that's just the norm these days.
I would not go back and pay the £140 - £170 they are asking for. But am glad I played it. If it were around £70... yes I'd i'd go back.

Couple guys that were along are members at Wentworth and they were saying service a bit more attentive at their home club.
I was dissapointed that they didn't clean my clubs at the end of the round !!! that was a nice touch at KClub.

There are so many good courses in the South East that you can play for £35 - £60. Other than the novelty factor just doesn’t seem worth it going to the Stoke Poges, Walton Heaths, London Golf Club, Sunningdales ???

Perhaps I’m missing the point and just not making enough money J
