Hi - I need a new back box for the exhaust (Honda one is about £1100 inc VAT), do we have any recommendations for upgrading the exhaust or replacements that are lighter, offer slight performance gains and sound a bit better?

Cheers!

Just about anything is better than the stock Honda exhaust for all of these parameters.

The Taitec GT Lightweight is a popular choice and is reasonably priced.

Pretty much all after market exhausts are considerably noisier from inside the cabin than the standard exhaust and can boom at certainly revs/loads so you may want to hear a few before you take the plunge. Titanium ones tend to be less boomy but are very expensive.

I would recommend the Taitec as I have one:)

Andy at Vtec should be worth a shout a few months back Vtec were doing a very good deal on the Taitec.

Or you could try Hayward and Scott in Essex.

I rather like my Tubi exhaust and it is much smaller/lighter than the stock exhaust.

As Mark mentiones, the Taitec GT lwt. drones, more so without cats or with sport cats. The Tubi looks really nice and is very well made, but is very, very heavy compare to the lwt japanese options.

For the best of both worlds GruppeM is the way to go is your car is an early one, if not Ti or custom made.

Looking to spend about the same as a stock exhaust, maybe a bit more but not double or anything. It's for a 1993 car.

Thanks.

I searched Ebay for 18 months waiting for Tubi's to come up and always just missed or didn't want to hassle shipping over from the US.

Gave up 6 months ago and paid around £1700 for the Tubi. Absolutely love it.

The Car doesn't just look the nuts now, but has the expected sound package. I can't emphasize this enough... but then again nothing against those who prefer the understated OEM.

Grooved or Slotted larger brakes would be the only thing left to consider on "performance" ( though the exhaust seems to add only sound performance! maybe slightly better throttle response? )

I did a group buy on the Larini exhaust, which worked out at £450 + carriage - you could always try to persuade one of the Larini buyers (see http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/testvb/showthread.php?t=5916) to sell you theirs...

I've found the Larini to be a pleasant upgrade from stock, though I still hanker after a Taitec GTLW exhaust every time I hear one - http://www.scienceofspeed.com/products/exhaust_airflow_products/NSX/TAITEC/GT_Lightweight_Exhaust/

VtecDirect used to get Taitec stuff but there's no mention on their website - maybe an enquiry would get you a price that, while being similar in price to what Honda's quoting you for the old stock one ...

Yes, can still get Taitec stuff, and can usually get a seriously good price.

Hi Andy, How much can you supply a Taitec FN-09 (Bel Canto) for?

Do you have any sound clips from inside the car?

How loud is it? The only reason I havent bought one yet is I am really unsure about the noise level:(

The Taitec GT Lwt is a droner, more so than a Tubi.

If you look under past events at the Rolling road event from 2006, there was a selection of soundclips from cars on the rollers. Not sure if still there or the links work (maybe a job for Admin to re-install?) S2 is one of the last runners and I have the Haywood & Scott system ... its very different from all the others and not at all intrusive around town or when cruising, so you only hear it when you should :)

Check out Gavin (sassthathoopie)'s great video from the Alps - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4T9PkWaLmo. He's got a GTLW and this features inside footage as well as drive-bys.

A bunch of us met up a while ago to represent stock (NA2 - simonprelude), Taitec (NoelWatson), Larini (decat - Lankstarr), and Tubi (Papalazarou). All footage is drive-bys.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq-zx1ZwgRU

I took before & after footage inside (though the post-install bit had the targa top off so there's more wind noise) and drive-by, when I fitted my Larini.

AR: did you ever get round to making your exhaust to end all drone? I remember you were talking about it when we were doing the Larini GB, but never came back with any details. The Taitec does drone, according to Gavin, but he says he just changes to a different gear when cruising to avoid the revband where it happens, and is happy with that approach.

I'm pretty happy with the Larini - it's not a lot lighter than stock, but the payoff seems to be that it doesn't drone ... yet it's pleasantly louder at tick-over and in the higher rev band. I do keep wondering if sport cats would make it that bit sharper... :)

Ok, so which one is going to sound most like a Capristo on a F355, cos that's the one I want -

Maybe the Taitec "Bel Canto" - the original exhaust was designed by NSXPrime'r Vancehu and it appears that Taitec are selling a version of it - Vance's car on a dyno...

I would of thought you need the Tubi or a bespoke build for 355ish sounds

Yes Tubi seems to be pretty good. not sure what the weight is, but they are £1500+vat new from scud systems at the moment.

Any second hand ones going?

thanks

Ewan I could not compete with the Larini on price, my exhaust was aimed to be around 750 to 800 with some very unique features. Lifetime warranty too, but everyone jumped on the Larini bandwagon.

If you think the Larini does not drone, you should try my GruppeM, or even better the AR-1.

I might sell the Gruppe M and build me a custom one, problem is nobody wants the Gruppe M used at half the price even when they are over £ 2500 shipped new!
