Was outside giving my cars the weekly clean when I spied this big feathered beauty. I've seen it almost everyday, it sits on a wall every morning in our land, heating its feathers in the morning sun, the glides about and comes back again. Its one of three that flys quite near, one of the other ones is even bigger!!

Bigger lens needed.

No idea Simon? But looks like a Hawk of some type alright.

I took those pics from about 100meters away.

On the assumption that it's got "kinked" wings and pointed wing-tips (not straight wings with "feathered"*/splayed tips) and a "long" rather than splayed tail, then it's a falcon/hawk rather than a buzzard.

(Buzzards look like small eagles - 5-fingered wingtips and a splayed fan-like tail. Kites have similar wings but with a narrower, forked tail, and typically more colour-change both above and under the wings...but just to confuse matters there's a species of buzzard with part-white under-wings. Oh...and I don't think we've any hawks native to the UK - all of ours are falcons.)

...and looking at the photos, assuming it's not a buzzard, then depending on how big it is, I'd say either a female Merlin or a female Peregrine. Looks pretty big (so perhaps Peregrine), but if it's got dark 'streaks' above its' eyes, then it's probably a Merlin.

And no, I'm not a bird-watcher, it's just we had a female Merlin on our back-fence about 3 weeks ago and I did some googling to find out what it was...

* No jokes, please! ;)

Looks like a Buzzard to me.

Had this little beauty kill a Dove in my front garden a while ago. Beautiful creatures.

Not sure what size that one is but, the ones in my field look allot bigger!

The one in my pic is about half the size of the other one it flies with.

Saw it about 3 weeks ago catch a magpie in mid flight and take it down lol

That one's only a Sparrow Hawk so only sits about 12" high....ish.

Got lots of those here in the country, my favourite is the Golden Eagle that kept appearing this summer hi up in the sky.

Amazing birds!
