When we dug out the other cars from 25-30cm of snow, unfortunately it left a larger pile right in front of the garage. Even if the thaw comes soon and the roads return to normal, it's going to take bloody ages for all this snow and ice to melt!

(and what you can't see here is that the lip in front of the garage has a rise of maybe 4 inches).

Similar situation here on the High Weald.

12" on ground before the additional 2-3" which fell last night. This is now blowing around in the strong winds, more forecast tonight.

Please that Y1 is tucked up safe in a heated garage snuggled under a cover, hooked up to a battery conditioner / trickle charger! :)

We were spared most of it, due to the shape and orientation of my house and my garage I have about five inches by the garage door! No point clearing it as the other roads are icy and the council...

Here is a tip, use a jetwasher to cut through the ice and a spade to lift it then pour some vodka on the ground to disperse the water!

Is the only use I have for it LOL, deicer or any other Alcohol will do the job just fine. If no dispersing agent is used the water left behind by the Jetwash might turn to ice. Salt and sand mixture is not very nice next to the NSX, so cheap vodka works a treat.

PS a weed burner also works a treat, but might scorch your pavement and not good for tarmac.

My Hilux 4x4 has been awesome, 7 inches of snow doesnt even phase it... have charged through large empty grocery store parking lots at about 25 mph in full 4wd power slides... pretty fun stuff.

I have to say that the CRV has performed very well and drifts really well for a semi 4x4. Good fun while the NSX is tucked away waiting for some clear tarmac .... which could be a long wait according to the forecasts :(

Drove the C2S to the cinema today. It was pretty icy on the way back. Every roundabout was a four wheel drift. Had to turn traction off completely to make any progress.
It was very predicable on opposite lock, but then I guess most of the weight's in the tail.
It seemed weird going sideways for 100 yards on public roads, but a lot of fun. The only disconcerting thing was the light front end in places I was really trying to stay straight.

Mrs D's A8 has been our vehicle of choice lately, but it's been beached a couple of times ... we basically need snow tyres in this country!

I was toying with buying a set of steel wheels with winter tyres for the Accord anyway - they say that <7degC, winter tyres perform better and wear less than summer ones, so it wouldn't necessarily be more expensive to run two sets of wheels every year.

some big worries on here...WE HAVE HAD 7M. ha ha.

The uk so needs 4x4s with snowplows on driving round 24-7 then gritters. Problem is too many cars in the way parked up. Here in whistler u are not allowed to park on the roads as the ploughs are clearing all the time. have to use the car parks or pray u have underground parking which we do.

Even though I own a 4x4, Im not a real fan of them if I had choice, but as a family car, I can see why they are a huge advantage in these conditions. Plus being an auto, all the better for setting off even though I prefer an manual.

eve though you own a 4x4 you don't drive it... do you drive any of your cars!?

Wife's quatttro has snow tyres fitted and is awesome in the snow. I did try pumping the tyres up for a long trip but it affected the handling on ice significantly. Makes sense really so I went back down to 30psi from 38! If anyone gets stuck letting a bit of air out may help!

Luke, the 4x4 is actually one of the daily runners!

I thought you should keep the tyres at the recommended PSI even in these conditions? The only time when I put an extra couple of PSI is in the Summer or if I'm doing a long journey fully laden, then I put whats recommended on the A or B pillar.
